Britanny Murphy's Irish roots

Brittany Murphy was Irish — hardly a surprise, given her last name. The actress, was over in Europe plugging her movie Sin City when she told Ireland’s Sunday Tribune all about her Irish roots.

The Murphy surname actually comes from her mother, who raised her after her parents divorced when she only two. “My mother and uncle’s last name is Murphy and it’s the name I’ve always used all my life,” she said.

“My family is very Irish. They give Murphy sweatshirts out to everyone when we go somewhere. We have the emblem from Murphy’s stout put on the sweatshirts like a family crest.”

The busy actress never made it to her ancestral homeland, though. “There were two times recently when I thought I’d be able to go, but work-wise it just didn’t happen, sadly,” she said at the time.

Sadly she will never make it now
