Glenn Close may have won several awards for best actress, but for her latest role the star is revealing her masculine side in “Albert Nobbs”.

The award winning actress is playing the role of an English woman who has to disguise herself as a male butler as she attempts to find work in 19th century Ireland.

The picture opposite shows Ms Close on a set in Dublin filming scenes for Albert Nobbs recently.
The movie is based on a short story by the Irish novelist George Moore.

As well as acting, Ms Close is also producing the film and has spent the last decade trying to bring the tale to the big screen.

She recently admitted that playing Albert Nobbs would be the ultimate challenge of her career.

“I believe in this story and its potential to take everyone on a sensuous, funny, heart-breaking, wildly unexpected ride,” she said.

Ms Close recently spoke about how thrilled she was to get the opportunity to film in Dublin.

“At one point we were thinking of filming in Hungary, eastern Germany, Montreal in Canada,' she said during a press conference in Dublin last week.

“We've been all over the place but I'm really happy that we're here because this is where it should be.”

She added: 'It is a real trick to bring off a movie, a period movie, on the budget that we have, but so far so good.”

Star of The Tudors, Jonathan Rhys Meyers also stars in the film alongside Sir Michael Gambon, Pauline Collins and Brenda Fricker.
