The Bon Secours Hospital, Tralee

A major employer in County Kerry, with over 500 staff and more than 40 consultants, Bon Secours Hospital, Tralee is recruiting, and specifically looking at the American market to in the hope that this will provide a greater number of applicants.

The hospital has received substantial investment since its inception with further development to commence in 2013. Phase-two of a €7 million ($9.6m) development is due to commence in the New Year.

Hospital Manager Donna Roche said, “We are looking at the American market to widen the potential net of applicants of all nationalities. Of course we are are conscious of the high rate of immigration of our doctors to the USA, seeking experience and fellowships. Adding to this Ms Roche said, “Perhaps timely for a doctor interested in opportunities at home.”

The expanding team at the Tralee based hospital has seen the arrival of four consultants since June 2013, encompassing a comprehensive range of clinical specialties and diversity of sub-specialty interests.

“The people who work at Bon Secours are our strength and we look forward to welcoming applications from consultants who wish to live and work in one of the most popular locations in the world, where the quality of life is second to none. The new consultants will replace some of our long-serving surgeons who are due to retire in the near future” she added.

One of the greatest challenges facing the hospital in 2014 is the need to continue to expand the range of services available to private patients. Some 2 million people in Ireland have private health care insurance, the cost of which is escalating.

Donna Roche stressed that the hospital only wanted the consultants who would best fit the organization. “We provide the best quality care, but economically grounded for long term success.”

The hospital in Tralee has been serving the people of County Kerry for over 90 years and during that time it has earned a reputation for offering the highest standards in patient care, delivered with the utmost compassion.

The Bon Secours Hospital is located in the heart of Tralee and is only a five minute walk from the town center and a number of hotels, guesthouses, cafés and restaurants.

“In our wider community we provide funds for numerous community initiatives, financially supporting Kerry hospice and Kerry cancer group.” said Ms Roche.

Another major factor for potential applicants is that the hospital operates the health link bus which transports all Co Kerry patients free of charge, from their homes to Co Cork on a daily basis for radiotherapy sessions.

The hospital is also a strong believer in giving back to the community, through support for all local organisations and small businesses. Bons Secours is also a major sponsor of the annual Rose of Tralee festival, which takes place each summer.

“We see this event as a  core component to economic success of Tralee as the county town of Kerry.”

Another key aspect of Bons Secours that applicants that applicants should bear in mind is that the hospital believes that all care is local and, therefore, positive reviews on the local grapevine are vital for success. The a key objective for the hospital in 2014 is that, “Small but excellent that’s our goal for the future,” added Ms Roche.

Tralee is accessible by road, rail and air and it is the gateway to the Dingle peninsula and the Ring of Kerry. It is also home to the Rose of Tralee Festival. The town also offers great shopping, a host of all-weather attractions & easy access to great beaches, mountains, spectacular golf courses and historical monuments of the North Kerry landscape.

The deadline for receipt of applications for the Consultant General Surgeon positions is Friday 20th January 2014.
