The hat, designed by Irishman Philip Treacy, was slammed by fashion critics and royal wedding watchers alike

Princess Beatrice is putting all the controversy about her silly wedding hat behind her for a good cause. The hat which was designed by Irishman Philip Treacy,  was slammed by fashion critics and royal wedding watchers alike. Despite the criticism, the hat will be auctioned off on Ebay to raise money for charity.

It was described as resembling moose antlers, bear claws, cow droppings and many other negative terms but now it will make money for a good cause.

The princess's mother, Sarah Ferguson, stopped by The Oprah Winfrey Show to talk about her upcoming reality show and to talk about her highly publicized snub from the big wedding bash. Ferguson also revealed that her daughter will split the proceeds between charities UNICEF and Children in Crisis. Beatrice has experience with raising money for charity, particularly for children in need.

According to the Daily Mail, Beatrice revealed "when my hat started getting so much publicity I really wanted to put it to the best possible use and try and raise some money for the children they help. 'Children in Crisis and UNICEF are both doing amazing work for the most vulnerable children in the world so they were the natural choice for me, I really hope this idea can raise lots of money to give children a better future."

Philip Treacy, the Irish milliner who created many headpieces for the wedding party that included Beatrice and sister Eugenie, spoke out against the backlash saying that the pair looked stunning in his designs. Treacy added "they trusted me to make them. Gorgeous and beautiful can be open to interpretation."

Treacy's creations have become a must-have among the Hollywood A-List as well as British royals, with Lady Gaga and Sarah Jessica Parker recruiting the Galway-born Treacy for their public events. Although his hats usually start around $1,000, Treacy's design for Princess Beatrice surely will fetch a greater amount despite its bad rep, all in the name of a good cause.
