The Consulate General of Ireland in Atlanta, representing Ireland in the US Southeast, has announced the appointment of Amy Seigenthaler Pierce as Ireland’s first Honorary Consul in Tennessee, based in Nashville.

The Consulate General of Ireland in Atlanta said the decision to appoint an Honorary Consul reflects Ireland’s ambition for and commitment to Tennessee, as well as the growing political, business, tourism, and cultural links between Ireland and the state.

Approximately 10% of Tennessee’s almost seven million inhabitants claim Irish heritage, the Consulate noted, adding that Ireland is the sixth biggest source of Foreign Direct Investment in to Tennessee, and Irish investment in Tennessee supports approximately 8,000 jobs throughout the state.

Seigenthaler Pierce is both a proud Tennessean and a proud Irish American who maintains strong links to Ireland. She currently serves on the board of the US-Ireland Alliance and previously served as chief aide to US Ambassador Jean Kennedy Smith at the US Embassy in Dublin from 1994 to 1999.

Seigenthaler Pierce is a Managing Partner at FINN partners, a global marketing and communications agency, and will continue in that position while assuming the responsibilities of Honorary Consul.

The Honorary Consul in Nashville will work with the Consulate General in Atlanta to support Irish citizens, growing our ties in the state and building Ireland’s profile as a place to visit, work, invest, and study.

Speaking ahead of a visit to Nashville announcing the appointment, Caoimhe Ní Chonchúir, Ireland’s Consul General in Atlanta, said: “We are thrilled to announce Amy Seigenthaler Pierce as Ireland’s Honorary Consul in Nashville.

"This is a huge step forward in Ireland’s relations with Tennessee. Having Amy on the ground will help to support our wonderful Irish communities in the state and strengthen our flourishing economic ties. It is a statement of our commitment to the Ireland-Tennessee partnership.” 

Seigenthaler Pierce, Honorary Consul of Ireland in Nashville, said: “I am deeply grateful to have been selected to represent Ireland in my home state of Tennessee.

"The decision to establish an Honorary Consulate in Tennessee underscores Ireland’s appreciation for the links that have long existed between our two great cultures and their potential to grow.

"I look forward to working with those who love Ireland in our state to celebrate and strengthen the ties we have in common.”

On Sunday, Catherine Martin, Ireland's Minister for Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media, was in Nashville and met with Seigenthaler Pierce and Ní Chonchúir.
