Irishman held in Israel 'threatened' by top official

An Irishman who was detained in Israel after Israeli commandos shot dead nine people on a flotilla of ships heading for Gaza has told the United Nations that he received a "serious threat" from an Israeli official who is close to the Israeli Prime Minister.

Fiachra O'Luain from Carndonagh in County Donegal was second mate on the Challenger 1 and told how he watched in horror as the Israeli forces descended onto the Mavi Marmara and opened fire.

The 28-year-old local man said that in the light of the threat he had yet to decide whether he would return on the next aid convoy in October.

O'Luain submitted his statement of evidence to the United Nations Secretary General's Panel Of Inquiry this week. In his statement, he revealed how he had alerted Senator John Kerry’s office in the United States and the Irish Department for Foreign Affairs to the "serious threat" he had received in an email from an official close to Binyamin Netanyahu.

In his evidence O'Luain said: "The official wrote: ‘Details have been sent to the Foreign Ministry. May you and your boat sink to the depths of the sea, may you know the punishment meted out to the enemies of God’s Chosen People.' Knowing how close this man was to the Israeli Prime Minister, I realized how serious this threat was."

I'd like to comment on the article above but opinions seem to be rather entrenched.So instead I'll chat to my favorite Unionist Orangeman from the failed statelet of Norn Iron.How's it goin'? downinthegutter still the same i see,thought you were dead.Pray tell, protect Ireland from who?Who do we need protecting from? Who would dare invade us? No Muslims are going to blow us up,we send them goodies.Reminds me of the story of the British embassy in Iran..They named it Bobby Sands Street..The Brits got very upset so they moved the embassy to another street.So the good old Iranians took down the sign and renamed the other street Bobby Sands street.Tee Hee.No i don't think we have anything to fear.

I wonder if Ireland would survive on its own without the United Kingdom protecting it... You are aware the United Kingdom protects Ireland... Also, it is always nice to know that the Irish have such fond feelings for Israel and the Jewish people... Every comment is duly noted...

The Israeli official meant or was referring to punishment from God! According to scripture if you are against God's chosen people and or those who stand with them, then HE (GOD) will be against you!

I think all these people who want to aid these Arabs are stupid. Let the oil rich shieks aid them instead of terrorizing the rest of the world.I realise Ireland sided with Hitler When he was killing millions of Jews,but I would have thought they were now wiser.

I expect the threats were from Avigdor Lieberman. It's exactly the sort of thing I would expect of him. Even Netanyahu is obviously embarassed by him. He has even sent other people to do his job as foreign minister, because most other heads of state find the man completely abhorrent. As for Maloney, by calling arabs 'dune c**ns' you expose yourself as a racist. I expect if you were to leave off the first word then that's how you refer to black people. You're disgusting. Let's hope there's a peace agreement, but it looks like Jerusalem will be the deal breaker.

seano...Australia wouldn't be doing near as well if it had a southern border that was under attack every day. The people of the US give more money to the rest of the world than all the rest of the globe combined, not including the money the govt. pisses away around the globe each year. The USA is having more serious problems than most realize thanks to both sides of the isle but the dems have done more damage in less than 2 years than anything done in the past 50 by both sides. If things were to continue as they have, the muslims & other enemies very well may take over the world. The us will not be in any shape to bale Isreal or anyone out any more. I,m becoming more for isolationism every day. We do need to get our own house in order, if it isn't to late already.

My position on the Middle East is straightforward, haikued2. If the Zionist experiment known as the State of Israel is really viable, they should be able to survive on their own without America falling all over itself to protect them from the consequences of their own behavior. At a minimum, we've got to stop that lavish $3 billion annual subsidy.

The problem is that if you call for an adjustment to America's overly generous relationship with Israel, they call you a nasty name . . . exactly as you have done in your response. However, the effectiveness of name-calling diminishes with overuse. At some point I just shrug and say there's no way to please these people. They get $3 billion a year from us and they act like they're doing us a big favor by accepting it!

Well, nuts to that. This stuff has gone on for years and years, and no matter how one-sidedly generous we are, the situation gets worse. Now here's a thought - let's get out. It's time to tell those people to fish or cut bait. And if they call you a nasty name, they're already doing that.

Maloney !! Irish born and proud of it. Australia is the richest country on earth. Low unemployment,high standard of living an average wage that you trailer trash could only dream of. House and car sales are booming and haters like you are few and far between. By the way your average (wage $8 an hour) is third world conditions.I was paying that to junior employees 15 years ago. Minimum wage in Australia is $550 dollars per 37hr week.Weep and bleed my son.

Dennis Q: your view of Israel is a bit of a distortion. If the Muslims/Arabs were to lay down their arms and stop all the rockets and attacks and get off the "kill all the Jews"..there could and would be peace. I think the guy is a schmuck. He was transporting goods and people supporting the Palestinians who are essentially part of the great fanatical radical Islmist threat to "kill all the Jews" and "wipe Israel off the Map"....the so called threat sounds more like an Irishman's way of expressing the thought...may the road rise up to meet his face, and may the rain shrink his underwear!

I am skeptical about the virtue of anyone who claims that God is on their side. The Nazis whore belt buckles stamped with the words "Gott Mit Uns", "God is with us" while committing genocide. I also heard the murderers of Danny Pearl saying "Allah O Akbar!", "God is Great!" while beheading the journalist. I see no difference between them and Israelis who attempt to justify their conquests, occupation, and oppression of their neighbors with the myth that God gave them the land.

Israel is headed towards an identity crisis because Jews are generally liberal, but Israeli government figures are anything but. Eventually the people who will pressure Israel to become more humanitarian are other Jews.

The rest of us are not going to simply stand by and let the Jews figure it out for themselves . . . not while we're lavishing a $3 billion annual subsidy on Israel. It's money that's needed here, and the Israelis are using it to buy weapons to maintain their apartheid state. That's the first thing we've got to do. If this is going to be Jews vs. Jews, let's stay out of it . . . and keep our three billion, thank you.

Can you imagine if we created an Irish state for Irish only, Meaning of course your Grandparents at least would have to have been Irish.
