A Dublin business man has been charged in connection with the murder of Elaine O’Hara, whose remains were found in the Dublin Mountains last month.

The 36-year-old childcare worker had been missing for over a year. Her remains were discovered in the Dublin Mountains by a woman walking her dog last month.

On Thursday morning detectives investigating her murder arrested Graham Dwyer of Kerrymount Close, Foxrock, Dublin at his home. The suspect has no previous criminal convictions and was not known to police, RTE reports.

The 41-year-old company director was charged in Dun Laoghaire District Court on Friday morning in a hearing that lasted just three minutes. The court heard that when asked by gardai if he had anything to say, Dwyer replied: "I do, not guilty."

Investigators believe O’Hara had been using a website for people with fetish sexual preferences. The focus of their inquiry has been on finding the men she was in contact with.

Police searched the home of the buisness man, which he shares with his wife and two children. They removed two cars, computers and other possessions for forensic examination.

O’Hara was last seen in August 2012 close to the footbridge that crosses the railway at Shanganagh Park in Shankill. Her car was found near Shanganagh Cemetery where her mother is buried.

Some of O’Hara’s personal items were also discovered at a reservoir in Roundwood in Co Wicklow.
