He didn’t win an Oscar last month, but Michael Fassbender picked up a nice honor in London on Sunday when he was named Best Supporting Actor for his stellar work in 12 Years a Slave at the Empire Awards in London sponsored by Jameson.
Fass is currently on location so he wasn’t on hand at the glittering ceremony attended by the likes of Tom Cruise, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Hugh Jackman.
He’s also up for another award this weekend, one that may mean the most if he wins as it’s home grown – the Kerry-raised Fassbender will compete against the likes of Colin Farrell (Saving Mr. Banks) for Best Supporting Actor at the Irish Film and Television Awards on Saturday.
It won’t be soon before Fassbender is all over the place again. He stars in one of the most hotly anticipated sequels of the year, X-Men: Days of Future Past, which opens on May 23. He’ll share promo duties with Jennifer Lawrence (is there any movie she actually doesn’t star in?), Jackman, Peter Dinklage and many more.
