Popular British singer/songwriter Ed Sheeran didn’t bring home any Grammys on Sunday night, but he certainly made a cool fashion statement with a tribute to his Irish-born grandfather.

Sheeran, BFFs with Taylor Swift and other top artists, wore a natty Gucci suit and sneakers for the bash, and paired the designer duds with his granddad’s old tie that he earned from the British Boxing Board of Control.

Bill Sheeran was originally from Co. Derry, moved to London in his youth and married a nurse from Co. Wexford. They raised their family in London and Bill was deep into the local boxing world, both as a fighter and later in life as a teacher and historian.

In 1983 Bill and Anne Sheeran retired to her childhood home in Gorey, Co. Wexford where he immersed himself in the local boxing scene, and undoubtedly enjoyed watching as his grandson Ed stormed the worldwide pop charts. He died last year of Alzheimer’s, and the Gorey Boxing Club formed a guard of honor at his funeral.
