Bernard Brogan will miss at least two of Dublin’s opening games in the National Football League as he bids to recover from a troublesome groin injury.

Brogan will sit out Dublin’s opener against Kerry at Croke Park on Saturday, February 1 and the second game away to Westmeath the following weekend.

“I wouldn’t say I’ll make the Kerry game, maybe the one after that or maybe after the three-week break, please God,” he said.

Brogan is also backing his elder brother Alan to bounce back with the Dubs in 2014 after injury wrecked his 2013 season as they won the All-Ireland title.

Bernard admitted, “I felt very sorry for him because he has given so much to the Dublin jersey for over 10 years. He carried them for a long time on his own and when other lads came in to give him a hand he wasn’t there for one of the years that he would have loved to have been.

“He was there on the pitch afterwards and he enjoyed it and all but it’s just not the same when you are not playing.

“He’ll say that himself. I’d say, deep down in himself, he is definitely feeling there is unfinished business and please God he’ll hope to want to put it right this year.”
