A Dublin-born man and his wife were found dead in their Johannesburg, South Africa home after the wife's father shot them both. He admitted to the crime after explaining that his daughter and son-in-law had mistreated him and wouldn't let him go out, according to the Herald.

Kevin McGuirk (53) and his wife, Kim (34), both owners of a successful diving company called "Africa Dive Tours," were found shot dead in their bedroom by their business partner yesterday morning.

Yesterday, Kim's father, Erwin Franz Poppinger (75), was charged with two counts of first degree murder. If he is found guilty to the crime that he's already admitted to committing, he would face a minimum of 20 years of prison. According to a police officer, "he was arrested and is being held in custody."

A close friend of the couples said that "They were both very loving people with a very free spirit. They had a passion for life and for people, it's a real tragedy, they will be sorely missed over here."

Kevin had been living in South Africa for the past ten years, and had a son in Ireland and a daughter in South Africa from a previous marriage. The friend, Massyn Jansen Van Vuuren, said that McGuirk "loved his job as a diving instructor and tour guide. He was just so full of life, and constantly looking forward to their next adventure."

He also added that colleagues and friends of the couple are confused as to why the father in law reacted so strongly: "As far as I understand, there is no doubt that Kim's father did it but none of us understand why".
