Sinn Fein President Gerry Adams is in New York to attend this week’s meeting of the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) hosted by President Clinton.

Adams is a member of the CGI and was invited to attend this year's event by President Clinton.

This will be his seventh year of attending the event which has been running from 2005.
"The work of the CGI is hugely important in bringing much needed economic investment and support to developing nations,” he said.

"It provides an opportunity to meet political leaders from around the world, to listen to the difficulties and challenges confronting them and to speak about the Irish peace process.

"I will also be speaking at a labor event in New York on Wednesday celebrating the contribution Irish America has made to the labor movement in the United States.”

Adams is also expected to attend the Wall Street 50 dinner hosted by Irish America magazine on Thursday.
