Neil Armstrong's name will endure till the end of humanity, and this week he will be buried at sea.

According to the Daily News, the famed Apollo 11 astronaut, who passed away last month at 82, will be laid to rest by his family in an undisclosed location in the ocean, sources at NASA have confirmed.

Armstrong's family is reportedly working out the details, but the burial will be conducted in accordance with the astronaut’s wishes, NASA spokesperson Bob Jacobs told the News.

Armstrong landed on the moon on July 20, 1969 alongside Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins.

Armstrong was also a Navy veteran who flew on nearly 80 combat missions in the Korean War before becoming a famously calm and collected astronaut.

'It is fairly common for current and former Navy personnel to be interred at sea,' Jacobs told the News.

Decorated Navy veterans eligible for the service are offered several ports of embarkation, including in Virginia, Florida, California, Washington, and Hawaii.

Armstrong, famous for his 'one small step' was honored at a private memorial in his home state of Ohio last Friday.

Responding to Armstrong’s death, President Obama said he was 'among the greatest of American heroes—not just of his time, but of all time.'

Armstrong passed away due to complications resulting from cardiovascular procedures. A public memorial will be held for him on September 13 at the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C. at 10:00 AM.
