U2 manager Paul McGuinness has slammed Google for not cracking down on illegal music downloads, the Irish Daily Star reports.

The band’s manager wants Google to fall in line with SOPA/PIPA internet piracy legislation. “It amazes me that Google has not done the right thing,” the Irishman said at the MIDEM conference in Cannes over the weekend, as reported by Billboard.

McGuinness insisted that the company is “making money from directing people to piracy.”

Speaking at the MIDEM music industry trade fair in Cannes in France, he said: “I wish they would apply themselves and their extraordinary ingenuity to the micro-transactions that occur every time somebody listens to a piece of music over the internet

McGuinness said: “Google have been making encouraging noises about restricting illegal sites, but I’d like to see some action.”
