Irish actor Michael Fassbender has been tipped to win two Oscar nominations next year - by respected movie bible, 'Total Film'.
Movie experts have predicted that 2014 will be 'Year of the Fass' in the latest edition of the magazine.
The gifted Kerry-born actor has already won over critics and audiences for past starring performances in films such as 'Hunger', 'Inglorious Basterds', 'Shame' and 'Prometheus'.
But despite his obvious talent and screen presence, the 36-year-old has yet to win over Academy Awards chiefs and earn an Oscar nod for his past leading roles.
However, Total Film writers believe two of his upcoming films, 'The Counsellor' and '12 Years A Slave', will turn out to be serious award-season contenders.
'The Counsellor', directed by Ridley Scott and scripted by 'No Country For Old Men' author Cormac McCarthy, will see Fassbender play a lawyer who slowly descends into the dark world of drug trafficking.
The IFTA-winning actor has also teamed up for the third time with Hunger and Shame director Steve McQueen for '12 Years A Slave', which is set in pre-Civil War America.
And film experts believe the actor's role as an evil plantation owner could finally land him a prized Academy Award.
Reflecting on the Irish actor's chances, the magazine states: It seemed like a shoo-in. Having dropped serious weight to play IRA activist/martyr Bobby Sands in 'Hunger', Michael Fassbender's similarly edgy reunion with artist-turned-director Steve McQueen seemed set to convert his cult cred into award-circuit gold.
"But baring all, body and soul, as a sex addict in Shame proved a turn-off for Academy members, who left him off their shortlist, leaving it to Prometheus co-star Charlize Theron and George Clooney (who beat him to the Golden Globe, for 'The Descendants) to praise his penis from the podium."
The magazine adds: "Two years on, can two new prestige productions put the focus back on his acting? Whether it's third-time lucky with McQueen, or second time around with Ridley Scott, the omens are good for success in 2014."
