A daring 95-year old man is about to take his most daring adventure yet, as he prepares to make a world record attempt by wing-walking on top of a biplane at 1,500 feet on the 26 mile trip between Land’s End in England and Scilly!

Fearless granddad Tom Lackey will take to the skies on Thursday, May 22 in an effort to be the first – and oldest – person to wing-walk the 26 miles.

Lackey currently holds the Guinness World Record for being the oldest man to do a loop-the-loop on the wing of an aircraft, when he was 86; the oldest man to cross from Dover to Calais and back on the wing of an aircraft, aged 93 and the oldest man to cross the Irish Sea, aged 94.

Lackey said: “I am really, really looking forward to this wing-walk to the Isles of Scilly – it will certainly be a birthday to remember. I hope I can inspire the older generation but also the younger generation too.”

Rob Goldsmith, Chief Executive of the Isles of Scilly Steamship Company said: “We feel honored Mr Lackey has chosen to mark his 95th birthday by flying from Land’s End to the Isles of Scilly.

“We’d love it if as many people as possible came to Land’s End Airport next week to show their support for Mr Lackey, and help us wish him a very happy birthday.

Most 95-year-olds would be celebrating in a more sedate way – but Mr Lackey is not most 95-year-olds. He is inspirational and we wish him the very best of luck.”
