The New York Times critic Ben Brantley has given a rave review to Cillian Murphy and Misterman the one man play he is starring in in Brooklyn.

Brantley, the notoriously hard to please ‘Butcher of Broadway’ fell in love with this Landmark Productions and Galway Arts Festival co-production however, and especially Cillian Murphy’s role.

He wrote: “... Almost from the beginning of this breathless tale of an Irish village called Inishfree, which opened on Sunday night under Mr. Walsh’s direction, the electrifying Mr. Murphy seems to inhabit every millimeter of the vast and cluttered wasteland in which he has been let loose. And it’s not just because of all that running he does from one end of the stage to the other.”

Speaking of playwright and director Enda Walsh Brantley wrote; “Mr. Walsh, one of the most fiercely individual voices in the theater today, writes plays in which people are condemned to repeat the past — not because they can’t remember it..

Concluding Brantley stated “But Mr. Walsh, Mr. Murphy and a brilliant creative team — which includes Gregory Clarke (sound), Adam Silverman (lighting) and Donnacha Dennehy (who composed the original music) — have translated one disturbed mind into a complete physical universe. The multilevel, multifarious stage through which Mr. Murphy runs and jumps and (almost) levitates becomes the apparatus of memory itself.”

The play will have 18 performances in New York.
