A movie based on the HBO series “Entourage” has got the go ahead from Warner Bros.
Creator Doug Ellin will direct the film adaptation and has also written the screenplay. He previously exec-produced the comedy drama series with Mark Wahlberg and Stephen Levinson. Jeremy Piven and Adrian Grenier are currently in negotiations about reprising their respective roles. Kevin Connolly, who played Eric E. Murphy on the show, Kevin Dillon, and Jerry Ferrarra are also currently in negotiations.
Ellin had previously confirmed that the film will pick up where the tv series ended in 2011 and will focus on Ari’s new career move. RTE reports he said, “There are interesting developments about Ari as a studio head, and that’s still the first page for me.” He added, “But foremost is the friendship between the guys who are still hanging out and going to fun parties, and it continues with the same characters.”
The producers have given some hints of what they would like to see in the movie. Piven said on ‘The Talk’ last year, “We’re teed up for a movie in a way that, you know, Ari has this conundrum that he’s facing, which is either to rule the world or to honor his love to his wife.”
The Huffington Post reported that Wahlberg said in June of 2012, “I think a 90-minute movie of sheer craziness-- they guys getting back to just being the guys, you know? Lose the ladies. Go crazy. Give people what they want.” The film does not yet have a start date for filming.
The season six premiere, which aired in July of 2009, was dedicated to Connolly’s Irish American mother, Eileen, who had passed away in March of that year. His career began when a wedding photographer asked to take 6 year old Connolly’s picture at his uncle’s wedding. His mother said about the event, “He was very cute. He had a little suit. He had a little John-John haircut.” His picture was later used in advertising for inflatable punching bags and pool toys and he starred in a Chips Ahoy! commercial. Connolly made his film debut in 1990 in “Rocky V” and later achieved celebrity status for his role in “Entourage.”
