Irish emigrants have been pouring into Dubai with the Irish Embassy seeing a 10 percent rise in the number of Irish citizens moving to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in the last year.

According to the Evening Herald, Dubai has become attractive to emigrants because of its high standard of living, its tax-free income, young population and the abundance of job opportunities in the area.

There were 800,000 medium and high-skills jobs in the UAE at the end of 2011 and the majority of these jobs were in Dubai. The Herald reports that the main skills sought are in the health, education, finance and infrastructure sectors.

The Irish Business Network, a network of business professionals in Dubai, has seen its membership ranks grow.

Many of them are skilled graduates in their 20s, according to Network chairman Brian King.

"A lot of them are highly educated with degrees and masters. There are a lot who have had their own companies coming over," he said.

Expats must have a work permit to stay in the country and permits can only be obtained after having a job offer as the employer must sponsor the employee. Once the job ends, the person will have to leave the country.
