Hollywood star and New York local Alec Baldwin is coming under heavy fire by conservative parties for his recent homophobic rant on social media site Twitter.

Certain conservative parties are calling for Baldwin to be treated the same way that Paula Deen has been in light of her recent allegations of racism. John Hawkins of RightWingNews.com has told Breitbart.com, "It’s hard to understand why Capital One would choose to publicly condone his homophobia by keeping Baldwin on as its spokesman," The Daily News reports.

The appeal to Capital One from conservative media parties came after Baldwin made a public apology to the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD), wherein he tried to clarify that his "Ill-advised attack on George Stark of the Daily Mail had absolutely nothing to do with issues of anyone's sexual orientation." He made note that his "anger was directed at Mr. Stark for blatantly lying and disseminating libelous information about my wife and her conduct at our friend's funeral service."

GLAAD seems to have accepted Baldwin's apology, saying he has made it "clear that the intent behind his tweets does not excuse his language” and “there are now other visible actions that he should take to fight anti-gay violence and GLAAD looks forward to working with him.”

Despite this, conservative activists seek to compare Baldwin's outburst and the generally minor consequences of it to the harsher ramifications received by former Food Network hostess Paula Deen for her racist remarks.

Dan Gainor, the vice president of business and culture at Media Research Center claims that Baldwin will not receive the same treatment as Deen has. “Companies know the media won’t beat them up for keeping Baldwin on board, despite his violent threat and homophobic comments,” he says. “Why? Because he’s liberal and the same rules don’t apply.”

Baldwin has since re-activated his Twitter account, though there have been no new posts as of yet.
