Bono’s wife Ali Hewson has been airlifted to hospital after a quad bike accident on holiday in Costa Rica.

The U2 star’s spouse suffered broken ribs when she fell from a quad bike on a beach according to the Irish Independent.

Reports say the celebrity couple have been on holiday in the Central American country for the past 10 days.

The paper says Hewson and Bono were somewhere near Cóbano de Puntarenas on the Pacific coast when she had the accident. Some reports say Hewson broke a leg following the fall.

Hewson was airlifted to hospital in San Jose where she received treatment for broken ribs.

Immigration officials have confirmed that Bono and his wife have been in Costa Rica since February 11.

Bono and U2 guitarist The Edge are regular visitors to the Central American country.

They were spotted last year swimming with dolphins off the Osa Peninsula on the band’s private yacht.

Publicists for the band have yet to comment on the story.
