A mother of two has been acquitted of the murder of her husband, a former NYPD sergeant.

On Thursday,a jury acquitted Barbara Sheehan (50), of the murder of her husband, Raymond Sheehan, whom she shot 11 times. In their third day of deliberations, a panel of nine women and three men did found the Queens women not guilty of murder, but guilty of possession a weapon.

“We’re extremely ecstatic,” her father, Michael Henry, told reporters afterwards.

Sheehan had admitted to shooting her husband 11 times in the family Howard Beach home Febuary 18, 2008, but claimed she acted in self defense after enduring decades of domestic abuse.

“She was never able to successfully defend herself against him,” attorney Michael Dowd had said during the trial’s closing arguments.

On Wednesday juror members were in deadlock over the case.

“We are hopelessly deadlocked,” read a note from the jury foreman to Judge Barry Kron. “This is after a lot of deliberations,” the New York Post reported.

In response Judge Kron said: “based on the volume of testimony, it seems like you’ve deliberated a long time -- but it isn’t,”

“Take a deep breath and take your time. Narrow down areas of disagreement and decide based on testimony who’s being truthful, who’s being accurate. I will now ask you to go back and continue to deliberate.”

The juror reached out to the judge after they asked for a read back of Sheehan’s dramatic testimony detailing her version of the events of February 18, 2008.

Barbara sobbed as the jury listened to the testimony read by a court reporter. For twenty minutes she cried into a tissue before a court officer walked over to her and whispered something in her ear, after which she kept her head down.

In her testimony she maintained she shot her husband Raymond after he pointed a Glock at her as she attempted to flee the family home. He had been shaving in the bathroom at the time and kept his pistol on the sink.

She told the court she had fired shots from a separate revolver in self defense and then proceeded to shoot him with the Glock after it feel to the ground.

"I shot him, I shot him!" she told the first cop who arrived at the scene. "I think he's dead upstairs."

Sheehan left the court smiling but she was not permitted to speak with reporters. She could face up to 15 years in prison for possession of a firearm.
