Two people were arrested on Tuesday over a security breach at Shannon last month.

On Tuesday Niall Farrell (59) and Margaretta Darcy (78) were arrested in their homes in Galway, the Irish Times reports. They were later released without charge.

The two activits who are members of the Galway Alliance Against War (GAAW) peace group were previously arrested over a protest last month in Shannon. On October 7 the pair marked the 11th anniversary of the war in Afghanistan by blocking Shannon Airport's main runway.

"The Irish State has been an accessory in this illegal 'war on terror' from its very outset. GAAW believes it was essential to highlight the craven collaboration of consecutive Irish Governments in these wars and that is why the protest was held,” a GAAW statement said at the time.

Speaking about the arrests this week a Garda spokesman said a file on the case was being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
