Ciaran Carr - dropped dead due to Adult Death Syndrome

The parents of a rising young GAA star have been left heartbroken and devastated after he collapsed and died during a training session with his club.

Dublin under 21 footballer Ciaran Carr suffered from a suspected case of Sudden Adult Death Syndrome (SADS) last Friday night.

He was partaking in an indoor circuit training session with the Round Towers club in Clondalkin when he suddenly fell forward and collapsed.

Friend and team-mate Alan Milton told the Irish Independent that Ciaran’s parents Philip and Gemma are devastated and are being comforted by family and friends.

“They are being very brave. He was a happy-go-lucky man, he always went around with a smile on his face,” said Milton.

“His passion was football and hurling, he joined Round Towers when he was about four years of age with a hurley in his hand. Ciaran was a great ambassador for the club and for his family.”

Just an hour before he died, Ciaran had booked a venue for his 21st birthday party.

A sports management student at Inchicore College, he was a talented footballer and hurler and had recently been selected for the Dublin under 21 football squad.

A minute’s silence was held in his memory before the Kildare-Dublin O’Byrne Cup game in Newbridge on Sunday.
