Three Irish colleges were ranked in the overall top 200 universities in the world. Trinity College Dublin (TCD) was ranked highest at 67, University College Dublin (UCD) came in at 131, and University College Cork (UCC) at 190.

With its overall rank of 67th best university in the world, Trinity College Dublin had four subject areas ranking in the top 50: 28th in English Language and Literature, 31st in Politics, 33rd in History and 42nd in Modern Languages.

University College Dublin made the top 100 in several subject areas, including English, Economics, Geography, Biological sciences, and Accounting and Finance.

The law programs at both University College Cork and Trinity College Dublin both ranked in the top 100 programs in the world.

Several other Irish institutions were included in individual subject rankings. NUI Galway had placements in the top 200 for its English, history, law, computer science and pharmacy programs. NUI Maynooth was ranked for both its geography and English programs. Dublin City University was in the top 200 for computer science, and University of Limerick placed for modern languages and education.

Additionally, Dublin City itself was ranked eighth overall for best student city in the world.

Ben Sowter, head of research at QS, said, “Although only eight of the country’s institutions have ranked in the top 200, we found that 23 Irish institutions . . . have been cited by academics in at least one subject, which suggests that the international reputation of the country’s institutions among academics is strong.”
