A series of documents released yesterday by the FBI shows that Sen. Edward Kennedy was subject of a serious threat sent from a group called the Ulster Defense group over his stance on Northern Ireland.

The over 2,000 pages of documentation released by the FBI range from death treats to obscenities from angry people to outright death threats.

The threats persisted even after Kennedy stopped becoming a serious candidate for Presidential election.

Some of the hate mail was in reaction to the Senator's involvement in the Northern Ireland issue throughout his career.

One such letter, from the 'Ulster Defense' group, said "the real murderers of Ulster are the American people who have paid money to support this insane situation".

The letter continued: "in return, every one of these bigoted Americans will pay with his own life. He [Kennedy] will pay for what he has done to Ulster, and he will pay with his own life!"

The FBI followed up the death threat and informed Irish and British intelligence. There is no report on whether the originator of the threat was ever located.

The Northern Irish death threat was one of many threats that the Senator received for his work on Northern Ireland. However, it seems to have been the most serious one.

The documents reveal that death threats were a part of life for Kennedy One such threat received after Kennedy had faded from the political spotlight read:"Brass tacks, I'm gonna kill Kennedy and Reagan and I really, really mean it".

A footnote at the bottom of the file page said: "Due to nature of the threats, consider subject armed and dangerous."

Another investigated incident involved one Michigan man reporting that he was approached by three people, one who had a money clip with $5,000, and asked him how much he wanted to kill the senator, according to the documents. The men were supposed to contact him the next day and never did.

One document told of how in 1977, a former California prison inmate told Arizona authorities that Sirhan Sirhan, the assassin of Robert Kennedy, offered him $1 million and a car to kill Edward Kennedy. The former inmate, who wasn’t identified, said he declined the offer.

Some of the threats were expertly analysed by experts in many fields. Psycholinguists worked in co-operation with senior FBI officials to piece together the often fractured psyches of the individuals making the threats. The file concluded that the person making the above threat was probably just an attention-seeker and most likely harmless.

Explicit threats were also directed against other members of the Kennedy family.

Ted Kennedy openly supported the IRA and the Government of the U.S. permitted that organization to gather funds from many American groups to foment the terror in Northern Ireland. It's no wonder that threats, though very wrong, were made against him.
The Planted Terrorists hold fast to stolen lands. Especially with Momma's support and her Big kihuna cousin. A cousin whose lands are now despoiled by Momma's ilk. Ye be known by the friends ye keep. Another case of identifying with "a promised land" line.
Shuvonn & Manofaran, yes i know all those other loyalist terrorist groups existed but i'm referring to the alleged death threat to Ted Kennedy. THat group doesn't exist as far as I know and therefor leads me to believe it was an empty threat from an angry idiot or perhaps some tiny breakaway faction that wouldn't have the capability to carry out such a threat. If it was the UDA then why wouldn't they just claim it under their cover name UFF?
I think this is a real eye opener. Not only did Teddy manage to anger Americans and the Catholic Church, he managed to reach across the sea to our Irish Brothers and Sisters and evoke hatred there. Amazing bit of work just by opening one's mouth and inserting a foot! A death threat is very wrong. It should have never happened, but he obviously hit a nerve with many people - Ahh, rest in peace Teddy, you don't have to worry any longer!!
The world is a dangerous place, not because of those who do evil, but because of those who look on and do nothing. ~Albert Einstein
The U.V.F, the U.F.F.,U.D.A., the Red Hand Commandos existed as did the COLLUSION between RUC and the LOYALIST terrorists. This is NOT a competition as to who was responsible for MORE deaths than the other side.....
citizen69. It porbally was the UDA. Kennedy didn't want to arm the RUC because of there connections with and in different Loyalist groups.
Remind me, was that the same Ted Kennedy who in 1971 made the following 'helpful' statement, and I quote, "....the Unionists in Northern Ireland should be given a decent opportunity to return to Britain...."? The same Ted Kennedy who, somehow, managed to persuade the Carter administration to stop selling the RUC weapons for use in counter terrorism in Northern Ireland? Just checking.
During the Troubles in Ireland Irish Republicans were responsible for over 60% of the murders that occurred. While it may be true that those Americans that sent millions of dollars to the IRA contributed to the death of hundreds of Irish men, this so-called Ulster Defence Group did not exist. It is unheard of in Ulster. This 'threat' was obviously the work of a lone nut.
Where is this mythical protestant reservation called ULSTER? The real Ulster, northernmost province of IRELAND consists of 9 counties. The artificial life form statelet of Northern Ireland, created and maintained by Britain, with endless support from Uncle Sam, consists of 6 unviable counties. To add insult to injury, Lord Trimble, most ardent Britisher and virulent Ulster Unionist has been selected by Israel as an 'independent Irish representative' on their commission of inquiry into the Israeli navy's murderous assault on an international aid flotilla in international waters. It seems that Uncle Sam fully approves of this move also. I'm confused and bewildered.
Apparently to some Ulster Loyalists NO IRISH NEED APPLY still applied years after.....
