Larry Murphy, a suspected Irish serial killer who detectives say may have murdered an Irish American woman Annie McCarrick as well as several others, is due to be freed in August this year, authorities have confirmed.

The news comes as police are investigating what may be a hidden grave just two miles from Murphy's old home. Police  confirmed they conducted an examination of the open plot last month and removed earth fragments for analysis.

McCarrick, whose family is from Long Island, New York  disappeared in Wicklow in 1993 and her body has never been found. Her heartbroken parents spent lengthy spells in Ireland trying to trace her movements, but were never able to find any clues to what happened after she apparently left a nearby bar alone.

Murphy was eventually convicted of the rape of a Carlow businesswoman who he took to the Wicklow Mountains, but she was saved when men out hunting came across him assaulting her. His ten-year sentence is now up.

Murphy is one of  Ireland's most notorious criminals.

He attacked the Carlow woman in a vicious, well planned kidnap that saw the woman repeatedly raped in a brutal manner.

Now police are checking whether the new found  open grave could be linked to  Murphy.

The hidden plot was discovered near Humewood Castle in County  Wicklow – just two miles away from the rapist’s home.

Murphy  is a suspect for the disappearance of some of the six women missing in Leinster in the 1990s.

Police investigated him in  the disappearance of Jo Jo Dullard, Deirdre Jacob and Annie McCarrick in the 1990s.

Missing woman Jo Jo Dullard was last seen in Moone, Co Kildare, just 13 miles from Humewood Castle. The other victims were also in the area.

While still free , the rapist lived in the village of Boley, which is located just two miles from the latest gravesite.

One of the men that made the new grim discovery told the Evening Herald how the hole looked remarkably like a grave.

"My friend and I were shooting in the wooded area just outside the grounds of Humewood Castle when we discovered this strange hole," he said. "It was dug out like a grave. It was six feet long, two and a half feet wide and three feet deep.

Their was this kid from New York who murdered his girl friend and sought refuge in Ireland via his big shot lawyer father. I think eventually we got him, but the Irish Government stonewalled every legal attempt at extradition and didn't care one hoot about this girl. My question is how can anyone have any respect for Irish justice when they pull stuff like that?
This beast not only killed this beautiful girl, he also killed her mother and father. They are now divorced the pain they suffered drove them apart. I saw both interviewed on TV and I cried listening to there heartache, I hope something can be found to keep this ... in jail forever. There is no such thing as closure when you lose a child. Kickstar has it right.
SPIRIT ANGER IS AT IT AGAIN MOB RULE AND ROUGH JUSTICE HOW SAD A HUMAN BEING HE IS.
Sorry noseymama, Annie WAS a beautiful woman as the photo above photo shows. She's now a skeletal corpse buried somewhere in Ireland. As a parent, I can't get over the sense of grief her parents must suffer every day. I pray they find closure too and that the killer finally comes out with the truth. He only has to write a letter or make a phone call or speak to someone. Then the load will be off his mind too, though I mightn’t want to wish that for him.
She is a beautiful woman... I hope their family will have some closure.
hear, hear, kickstar, ole chap, I fear you may be correct.
Protecting the weak and defenseless is the moral responsiblity of a mature society. So why do liberals have a problem with the idea of "making the punishment fit the crime?" Why do they tell those people who believe that the punishment should fit the crime to "grow up?" And why does someone with a screen moniker like "jamthecat" think they are in a position to offer advice as to another person's need to "grow up?"
I think Ireland might just have about the right balance and cultures in it now to introduce an old punishment "Stoning" If not it wont be long.
Dear Spiritranger, Not everything is the fault of a liberal judge or politician. Sometimes -- hell, MOST times it's taxpayers demanding tax cuts while also demanding full services from their government (starting with Proposition 13 in California). Or it's criminal lawyers manipulating the law (organized criminals love them). Or it's the police and district attorneys deliberately planting or withholding evidence, thus forcing the case to be overturned (see Los Angeles, Dallas and Tulia, Texas for evidence of that). Or it's innocent people blamed for a crime that might not even be a crime (see Texas and how that state executed a man for a fatal fire that's been shown to have been accidental, even after evidence was presented to the governor that no crime was committed; and remember the runaway bride that EVERYONE was sure had been killed by her fiance but turned out to have just skipped out on the wedding). You blaming people you have ideological differences with helps no one and provides nothing in the way of repair to a damaged if not broken system...and is actually adding to the damage. Grow up.
In the States, these dirtbags occasionally get what they deserve, life or lethal injection. But alas, even America has let too many of these sick people slip through the system. God hates unrepentant liberal judges and the politicians who back them. God help us all to repent and learn to render righteous judgement against evil as we once did... until then, our women and children are not safe.
10 years? Ireland is like the rest of the Brit Isles ..soft on criminals
Naah Ireland must release him,he is not a pitbull that is innocent of any wrongdoing,Scotland have a similar policy, they released the Libyan Terrorist who blew up a plane that had 270 people on it inluding women and children but just recently an erstwhile judge from there also saw fit to murder a pitbull that had done nothing wrong, but I suppose the pit never had Gaddaffi as his owner,so no backhanders,It is a bloody disgrace.smarock10@yahoo.com
