Susan Boyle has revealed she was beaten as a child.

She told a British tabloid that she was hit with a belt every day by teachers and taunted by classmates because of her learning disability, caused by a lack of oxygen to her brain when she was born.

Boyle, 48, said, "You’re looking at someone who would get the belt every day. “Will you shut up — whack!"

"I was often left behind at school because of one thing or another. I was a slow learner."she told the Daily Mirror.

"I’m just a wee bit slower at picking things up than other people. So you get left behind in a system that just wants to rush on, you know? That was what I felt was happening to me."

She said, "There was discipline for the sake of discipline back then. But it’s all very different now. I think teachers are taught to understand children with learning disabilities a lot better."

"There’s nothing worse than another person having power over you by bullying you and you not knowing how to get rid of that thing."

She also revealed how her Catholic faith helped her through another great trauma of her life — the death of her mother.

"‘After mum died it didn’t fully register until maybe six months after. That’s when the loneliness set in and there was nobody around except my cat Pebbles.

"When you lose someone as powerful as your mum you feel as if a part of you is taken away and that does things to your confidence.

"My confidence was pretty down at that time. A good way of leveling it out, I found, was to tell myself that even though she’s not here physically, she is here mentally and spiritually.

"That’s what keeps you going. I have my faith, which is the backbone of who I am, really."

Yet another young Roman Catholic child being abused by those in control of our children through their formative years It was not the English Oppressors who kept our people subdued but our own Roman Catholic Church
Susan Boyle Fans ..... important news! A new video has been uncovered of Susan singing "The Power of Love" . Read about it and listen here: http://indianasusanboylefan.blogspot.com/
Could it be that all that heartache made her a better person? I believe so, and it all comes through in her pure voice. She makes many people very happy when listening to her voice.I love her.
Who could not love this woman?
It is a shame for a child to be bullied when they are young. Sorry it happened to you, Susan. But, the times they are a changing. When I was a child in the 1930s and 40s, and another young boy tried to bully me, I just considered the source and ignored it. Then, if they kept up the tact, I simply 'swung', and brought their attention to the situation. They left me alone. Too, if the boys bullied other children who couldn't fight back, I stepped in. They would back off in a minute. Never started a fight in my life, but finished quite a few.
I hate to hear that Susan suffered abuse from schoolmates. Bullying is such an ugly thing! The saddest part was that teachers who should have been helping her learn were guilty of abuse also. I hope that her success shames them all. I love her all the more for what she has overcome. God bless you, Susan!
I agree it is very painful to hear what Susan suffered as a child and even more distressing to find that so-called "celebrities" continue to bully her now. It is obviously pointless to appeal to their better natures because anyone who would want to hurt a vulnerable and gentle lady has no better side. We want Susan to know that she is worth thousands of these unkind people, that we love and admire her and will do our utmost to support and defend her against allcomers.
It breaks my heart to know what she suffered. How anyone can be mean to her now is beyond my comprehension. I hope that for the rest of her life she is happy.
Look at what she put up with then and came out as she is now. She was born with the inner strength that she shows us all. Kids can and are cruel. We the parents/grandparents need to teach them otherwise. I know that I will not allow it with my grandchildren!! Do unto others only what you want done unto you!!!
There is an anti-bullying consultation period going on in Scotland right now. This week - November 16-22 is Scotland's anti-bullying week: http://thescotsman.scotsman.com/education/Call-for-action--.5654311.jp And here: http://news.stv.tv/scotland/east-central/137842-susan-boyle-reveals-bullying-torment/
I wish she'd worn the Celtic jersey at the audition.
My heart breaks for the child she was, facing that abuse on a daily level. So many children commit suicide over just such abuse and yet Susan overcame it. Her family must have been loving indeed to nurture her through that. And now look at her! You've come a long way, Susan. You deserve everything good that has and will come to you.
Susan is like a breath of fresh air in the current celebrity scene. Totally honest and unsparing of herself, she is also an example of what courage, determination and resilience can achieve,no matter what the odds. Susan is an amazingly talented interpreter of song and BGT brought her to the public notice. But, if there had been no BGT, she would have persisted until the last breath she drew. And that is the difference between the winners and losers in life. To quote another unlikely winner, Winston Churchill, "Never, never, never give up."
