Agree with Seamus60, the state and councils have the money when they wish to squander,e.g. a new bridge over Liffey to cost millions, a new sculpture in presidents hovel in park last year that cost a couple of hundred thou but the public won't get to see, one of the t.d's salary or pension would have bought this no prob and with change. Eammon12 they don't give them away people pay rent for them.

Bythebay.Yeah!! I know it doesn't affect ya.But I don't like your comments.Belittling you is enjoyable for me.The reality is you don't even have one iota.Irish Americans are not very good at belittling people like you and I'm very good at it.Sigmund Freud would be very disappointed you got it so wrong. You are the id here on IC.But I think you lack a Super-ego.I'm going to be your Super-ego.The super-ego works in contradiction to the id.The Super-ego strives to act in a socially appropriate manner. You're an id-iot and I will affect ya.Watch the Super-ego.~~It's whispering to you~Listen!! You're an id-iot!!

If the local authority doesn't have €120k to buy these properties, they must be in a bad way.

sirpeter, your belittling language reflects your level of intelligence, probably also pumps up your super ego. Doesn't affect me one iota.

Bythebay.Do you have to be a feckin' thicko every time you comment? Economics is not your strong point.Nor is anything else from what I can see. You're as thick as a plank.

Good idea Seamus. The country is totally bankrupt and you think the govt. should have bought these homes to give them away. I wonder how we ever got into this mess in the first place...hmmm.

A bit off topic, but I must say that Cavan will forever be a sad name for me. When I was 9, Cavan beat Tim Tam in the Belmont Stakes, spoiling Tim Tam's Triple Crown. Tim Tam had the lead, but snapped a bone in a leg. He still courageously held onto 2nd, about 6 1/2 lengths back. He never raced again, but became a great sire of racehorses. Tim Tam was the very first horse I rooted for, because I liked his name!! My choices for tomorrow's Kentucky Derby are: 1) Union Rage 2) Gemologist 3) Take Charge Indy 4) Creative Cause.

Total disgrace, surely these houses could have been bought by state or local authority, who after all couldn`t build 3 low cost dwellings for anywhere that amount.
