A relative of an Irish policeman murdered by the IRA has claimed that Sinn Fein presidential candidate Martin McGuinness has ‘blood on his hands’.

Detective Jerry McCabe was killed and colleague Ben O’Sullivan wounded during an IRA robbery of a post office can in Adare in County Limerick in 1996.

McGuinness has claimed that he left the IRA in 1974 but the McCabe family have urged voters not to support his bid for presidency.

Una Heaton, sister of McCabe’s wife Ann, told the Sunday Independent that she hopes ‘sanity prevails’ and voters reject McGuinness who ‘has blood on his hands’.

Heaton said: “David Norris has only ink on his hands - Martin McGuinness has blood on his hands,” according to Irish Independent reports.

Adding that it is very difficult for her sister to talk about her husband’s death, Heaton said Ann McCabe was devastated when opinion polls suggested strong support for McGuinness.

Mrs Heaton told voters: “When you are going to vote, remember all the people killed in bombs like Enniskillen and remember people like Colin Parry who lost his son (in the IRA’s bombing in Warrington town centre in which 12-year-old Tim Parry was killed alongside Jonathan Ball, aged three, in February 1993) and ask yourself would you like to have a guy like Martin McGuinness represent our country. I hope it never happens.

“I was in the Stormont Assembly with relations of other victims when Mr McGuinness was present. I was in the gallery in Stormont and he would not look me in the eye. He has no conscience.”

Broadcaster Gay Byrne’s claims in the media last week that McGuinness and Gerry Adams are ‘liars’ was also welcomed by Mrs Heaton.

If it wasn't for the IRA your country would still be owned by Britain. It is always sad when someone dies in a conflict but those brave Irish soldiers were fighting a war against British imperialism just as the British fought the Nazis
The Blood from Mr. Mc Guinness Hands Fertilizes the Roses of the Free Irish State... Sweet the load that hangs on your shoulders. Also, I would like to know what Spirit Is It that sets to calm the mind that the English will Someday Eventually join us for Bread and Wine at Westminster Abbey ?
Cillowen, 'beloved president Dev'? Develara nearly drowned in his own snot as he snivelled over to Hempel's (German ambassador) residence in Dun Laoighre to offer condolences on behalf of the Irish people on the death of Adolf Hitler. Before you all start pointing out that Ireland is/was a neutral country STOP. Ireland is neutral unless there's a few shillings involved, like allowing US planes to refuel in Shannon on their way to Iraq. Greasy pawed paddys have no problem turning a blind eye if they can make a few dollars. On McGuinness's run for the presidency....can you imagine te outrage if Bin Laden or Al Zawirhi etc. ran for president of Afghanistan ? Would these RA/Sinn Fein apologists be advising about looking to the future and not the past.
if 99% of the members of this board share the PIRA view, then the shedding of copious amounts of protestant blood is acceptable if it delivers a united catholic ireland & to elect McGuiness will go a long way to achieving it, the rest of the world will undoubtedly be furious at this turn of events as the true meaning of the irish free state will become obvious as the irish 'prod free' state. Those of us NI RCs who don't want to live in a FARC/PIRA North Korean style marxist state, will depart these shores to the UK, dual nationality does have it's advantages, the rest of the 32 counties will be subject to chairmen McG & Gezza's tolerance of those who toed the party line & the rest. Ultimately this 32 county state will only exist if the prods go quietly, history suggests that this will not be the case & they will make a stand - this will give sirpeter, seano & the rest of the toadying PIRA sycophants on this board time to put their green berets on & fight the good fight alongside their RA buddies.
Vote for Martin, a vote for Ireland.
IF Martin McGuinness becomes president of the Republic he will have to swear to uphold a law which outlaws the IRA of which he was a member. The Republic’s laws make clear that virtually every aspect of the IRA’s activities were, and are, illegal. McGuinness would have to endorse the Republic’s considered legal view that the IRA was (and is) an organisation without justification whose existence undermined the rule of law in the southern state. The IRA’s own "constitution" was treasonable to the Irish state.
Beloved Prez, Dev, his hands were awash in blood.
