Sinead O’Connor has announced to the world that she is finished with marriage – and has denied that her wedding to Dublin addiction counsellor Barry Herridge was a publicity stunt.

The singer also revealed that her fourth husband was annoyed and upset when she went on a ‘wild ride’ in search of drugs straight after their nuptials in a Las Vegas wedding chapel.

In an extensive interview with the Irish Independent the rock star, dressed only in a towel when she answered her front door, reveals the full extent of the lunacy that surrounded her wedding and short lived marriage.

O’Connor even told the paper that the pressure of marriage to the 38-year-old Herridge (38) was akin to ‘living in a coffin’.

The Dubliner added: “It’s a Solomon’s choice; the whole reason I walked away from the marriage was out of love and respect for him.

“I would never betray my husband’s privacy. I remain determined to protect him but I want to be clear on the reasons for the marriage ending.

“I don’t do publicity stunts; why would anyone get married for a publicity stunt?” Even if I did it, the stupidest thing you could cook up would be marriage number four.”

Over the course of the interview with the Independent, O’Connor reveals the harrowing search for marijuana straight after the ceremony and the effect it had on her new partner.

“We ended up in a cab down in some place that was quite dangerous,” explained O’Connor.

“Now I wasn’t scared ‘cos I’m a kind of rock ‘n’ roller and I am used to it. But I mean, he is a drugs counsellor for children for Christ’s sake, you know, what was I thinking? The cabbie was freaking out and everybody else was freaking out and they were all thinking, ‘we’re all going to be shot’.”

No matter what her personal life is like, she is an Irish treasure and talent. She is just more interesting than most people. I wouldn't change a thing about her - especially her voice.
Again? Again! (again)
A great idea. Mind you, for the life of me, I cannot imagine why ANYONE would want to marry this woman.
Sinead, you should seek professional help soon!
Are you still be lonely? Do you want someone to companion with you. My- friends told me a nice place ------ 'Millionairesocial.C-O-M There are so many beautiful /successful people!,young girls / rich men. to- int'eract with each other., "everything to everyone"dating \.marry .even, a nice club for y'ounger women and old'er men, or older women and y'ounger men, and Age is no problem. everything is possible! You do not have to be rich or famous
will she put that in writing.her next single should be crazy/
There are some people who are just, for whatever the reason, not cut out for marriage. Liz Taylor eventually figured it out. So did Mickey Rooney. Sinead - get a clue.
and yet more publicity for this mad cow.
Or at least not till next year!
Please correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems to me that it was only yesterday that I/C Editor O'Dowd recommended that the media lay off Sinead. Are there no inter-office memos at IrishCentral? Does the staff not read each other's work?
Here we go again. I thought you (Irish Central) were going to give her (and the rest of us) a break. Please
Yawn! If your a fan of hers, buy a CD and listen to your hearts content. but why you feel compelled to inflict her upon the rest of us just cruel and unusual punishment.
Silly cow.
marriage is a patriarchal creation- so I am surprised at Sinead falling into the trap in the first place.
