Famed Irish developer Sean Dunne has stated he is delighted to be living in America and that he had no option but to emigrate after his properties went bust.

Dunne was one of the most successful developers during the Celtic Tiger era and lost close to $500 million when is plan to turn Jurys and Berkeley Court hotels in Ballsbridge into a huge upscale development fell foul of the economic recession.

He has staretd again in America, in Connecticut and New York and says he has no regrets.

"It is refreshing because in America failed business people don't get tarnished. They are encouraged to reinvent themselves and come back again.

"We all took risks and that's what entrepreneurs do; that's what ordinary business people do every day of the week."

"It's probably fair to point out that in 2007 I had predominately left Ireland for no particular reason -- certainly not to do with paying my taxes, but to explore other opportunities overseas because of the fallout here.

"To get any work in the building industry it is necessary to be overseas because there is no building work taking place in Ireland. I also felt that I had achieved as much as I could development - and construction-wise in Ireland.

"I'd laid the foundations for the planning application for D4 hotels, which, as we all know, was consigned to the scrap heap."

Asked if he regrets buying the Jurys and Berkeley Court hotels,Dunne said, "No, it would be fair to say I don't regret it. But if we all knew then what everybody knows now, we would have all retired and there wouldn't be enough chalets in Switzerland for us all to retire to.

"Hindsight is a fool's foresight”, he told the Independent. “I'm a believer that we can't dwell on the past or account for other peoples' actions and I don't believe in the blame game.

"If I did, I wouldn't get out of bed in the morning."

"I lost €120m of equity in the D4 hotels. The banks have also lost their money, but neither of us were led up the garden path, we are all big boys."

He says he has made his contribution to Ireland. "In 2007 my personal tax bill amounted to €42m and was paid in full. Everything I earned in Ireland I reinvested in Ireland and in its economic future. Like lots of other people, I was proven wrong but I can live with that."

Sean Dunne is a traitor to the Irish people. Irish taxpayers and future generations, are stuck with the debts run up by this man, other corrupt developers, bankers and politicians. What is the Dept of homeland security allowing this traitor to live in the USA????? American taxpayers will end up paying for his next round of mistakes.
Cape Cod is not the Irish Riveria; Boston's South Shore is. He isn't in Massachusetts, he is in Connecticut and New York. I don't know his immigration status, but bankruptcy is not against the law in this country. Our bankruptcy laws basically allow someone to start over.
Sinn Fein/RA putting people in jail, now that's a reversal of roles. Perhaps in this fantasy SF/RA government, the ferret would be justice minister. He does have certain experience in the area of the Irish justice system, of course so does 'our Gerry'.
Ah, another 'poverty-developer' member of the fallen 'Oligarchy who's passport was never confiscated, as is the practice in normal countries. Why is the term Oligarchy never applied to the previous ruling administration? More of an 'entreprenoor' than the real article. Oh he took risks alright, but with money not of his own. And We are carrying the can for the likes of him and countless other 'entreprenoors' indefinitely.
This lovely thief is probably living high in the Irish riveria of Cape Cod along with a formwer Irish thief from the anglo Irish bank.Thick as thieves some of these fly by night so called Irish entrepreneurs.Watch your wallets you people of NY, MA ,and Conn their is a few thieves around town.
Another big Fish, slips the net.He would be in jail under a Sinn Fein Government.
How come this guy is a resident here? With permission to work, too. What kind of a visa is he on? How come he wasn't "denied boarding" at Dublin when he went thru US Immigration? I've seen lots of Irish kids have to take their bags off the plane at Dublin or Shannon because they were refused admission to the US. How come this guy can just decide to come over here as a settler? And he says ""We all took risks and that's what entrepreneurs do; that's what ordinary business people do every day of the week." No, you liar Dunne. Business people take risks and bankrupt themselves if it goes bad. You and your cronies took a risk and bankrupted an entire nation. Elsewhere on this site we read that some poor bumpkin with a whistling donkey got fined $400 in Ireland last week. That's $400 more than this jerk Dunne ever paid. That's what wrong with Ireland today, it's run by and for the ruling class. They're literally as thick as thieves.
He should be dragged back to Ireland to face charges treason like all corrupt developers.
