Conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh has slammed President Obama’s trip to Ireland saying  Americans should start calling him ‘Paddy’ and saying it was a ruse to win the Irish American vote.

Limbaugh has an audience of over 30 million listeners weekly to his show and is by far the biggest radio host in the US.

He stated; “When he goes to Africa, he tries to pass himself off as a Kenyan. And if he goes to the Middle East he tries to pass himself off as Barack ‘al-Obama.’ And if he goes down to Selma he tries to pass himself off as a guy from down the street—totally disingenuous guy,” Limbaugh said.

He also stated “we ought to start calling him Paddy,” a traditional Irish nickname for “Patrick.”

Limbaugh’ took issue especially  with Obama going to  Moneygall, the tiny Offaly town  to meet descendants of his relative Falmouth Kearney saying the real reason  was to court the Irish American vote.

“Why make a big deal out of having some great-great-great-grandfather he probably never heard of until this week that’s from Ireland?” Limbaugh said. “Why make a big deal out of having Irish roots?” he said.

“What does it matter to statecraft? What does it matter to the job? It’s a pure campaign stop. The Irish vote in America is sizable. It’s pretty large, you’d be surprised, and he’s angling for it pure and simple.”

Limbaugh’s comments are bound to cause controversy with many Irish Americans seeing the term Paddy as offensive and often used in a pejorative context.

deburca (more likely, wrong spelling of 'the burkha')sez: "I completely agree with Rush" <----- tbagger greeting .....> rpmschevy responds: "deburca, pot calling kettle black. Can you have an intelligent conversation at all? -- And after about 4 pages of incessant, useless and inane left-wing chitter chatter, using little more than collective ad hominem against his intellectual betters, that seems to have finally shut the pea-brained EM-Effer up! Thank heavens!
I can not comprehend why Limbloat has to be mentioned at all. Way back when he first hit the NYC airwaves it took maybe three listens to drop the bloke..............
Obama's Ireland trip enabled the liberal press to fawn all over him for apparently being able to trace some form of Irish heritage. He is wearing rather thin in the USA; and needs a phony boostby the press. As with some of your other comment... he is probably less Irish than the Pope! Rush Limbaugh's comments hit right on the mark; and the commentary about "paddy" being offensive is absurd... it is a slang version of Patrick and has been in used for many years. I suppose thet the term "Black Irish" will be outlawed in Ireland so as not to offend the "royal" couple.
Kevin I am independent. I do study and research, and assist low income people with their tax returns. And no FICA taxes are not "suppose to be" fungible. Yes the liberals do steal from the Social Security Trust fund. And it is Income Tax that is now paying for 33% into Social Security, and it was not suppose to be. And you must have Income, employment income to pay into FICA. Read my post, unemployment is not income tax, so no FICA. Investment is not income. And my numbers were Income Tax. Take a look at the pecentages Kevin. Income Tax at a minimum os twice as much of FICA. Therefore it is a serious hit when people are not paying them. Thus not contributing to the collective.
deburca, pot calling kettle black. Can you have an intelligent conversation at all?
what I don't understand is when I came to live in Ireland from USA about 6 years ago people asked me if I am Irish and being very proud my great grandparents came from Ireland I said yes, they then said were you born here . I said no. THEY SAID THEN YOUR NOT IRISH. hmm I said you are going to disappoint millions of Americans who love their Irish heritage. So how is it they go crazy when an African American says he has Irish blood and is welcomed with open arms. I don't get it.
"I completely agree with Rush" <----- tbagger greeting
I completely agree with Rush. Obama is about as Irish as the pope. This was totally a publicity stunt to win the Irish American vote. Period.
@baileyBD on May 28, 2011, 10:40 PM EDT: Wasn't JFK a Berliner in berlin?
@rpmschevy - my point is that you are comparing apples with oranges. Again, FICA is a tax, just as much as income tax is - $s are fungible. Those FICA taxes go to pay the same costs as income taxes. FICA falls dis-proportionately on the low paid. Your GOP talking point is bogus.
How jelious can you get where would America be but for the Irish
Our businesses are going offshore because they can get slave labor offshore and they don't have to pay us taxes. That is both immoral and unpatriotic. Also, our big corporations have lobbied to get so many tax loopholes that most of them pay little to no tax. We need to go back to the tax rates of, at least, the Clinton years.
@balleyBD "Rush is absolutely right!" <----- sane people ignore anything that follows such a ridiculous statement because the person saying it has already embarrassed him/herself by advertising themselves as someone ignorant enough to listen to and agree with this bombastic balloon of hot, foul air.
Rush is absolutely right! Everything Obama does is self serving. I am an Irish American and I most certainly am NOT offended at the use of the name Paddy being applied to Obama as Rush intended. Dont take the comment out of context. He was quite clearly implying that Obama is a poser. He is Irish while in Ireland, Kenyan while in Africa and muslim/middle eastern when discussing Isreal. Funny thing, Obama is never a true American anywhere. Please Ireland, don't be taken in and conned by this imposter as many were in America in 2008. Believe me, 2012 is fast approaching and will be the end of an error.
weasetta- oh I completely understand how someone asking for actual examples or facts causes problems for you and why you'd percieve that to be "asinine" after all actually having a real life adult debate or conversation is way above where you are at in life. It's just so much easier to name call and generalize then to actually be able to explain and give examples of those things you believe to be the "truth". I know the actual factual example about the connection between economic growth and taxes was really tough on you as it included actual facts. Tell you what if my comments are indeed asinine then explain how and why they are just that- give us some keen insight into what makes my comments asinine. But once again it's the generalize and name call but never actually specifically address anything you've said with facts. The funny thing is you'll actually go through life wondering why no one takes you serious.
