Irish police are on red alert for a terrorist attack on British soldiers in Dublin’s Temple Bar – before the arrival of the Queen later this month.

The News of the World reports that dissident Republicans are planning to assassinate British soldiers sent to carry out security checks in the run-up to the Royal visit.

Police in Dublin have already identified Temple Bar as the most probable location for a dissident attack on the advance party due to arrive this week.

The Real IRA has vowed to shoot officers visiting Temple Bar on reconnaissance duty while the Continuity IRA has also vowed to disrupt the first visit by a British monarch since the foundation of the State.

“We are not going to let the head of the British state visit Ireland without us doing something,” claimed a spokesman for the Continuity IRA.

Irish and British security forces met in Dublin this week to review plans for the visit, just days before the arrival of US President Barack Obama.

Both sides are aware of the threat from dissident Republicans to disrupt Queen Elizabeth’s trip when she will visit sites in Dublin, Tipperary, Cork and Kildare.

The Queen is due to land in Dublin’s Baldonnel military aerodrome on Tuesday week with the latest threat from the Real IRA considered to be genuine according to the paper.

“Any information relating to the plans of the Real IRA has to be taken seriously and will be acted upon,” a security source told the News of the World.

“Police have to show extreme caution when dealing with such a ruthless gang.

“The Real IRA have no regard for human life and would think nothing of using guns in a location packed with tourists and shoppers.

“All efforts are being made to ensure the terrorists are not given the chance to mount any kind of attack in such a popular area as Temple Bar.”

It is amazing,...the loyalists are here,..the usual people,..I am not going to bother except to say that PhilipOHayda is an EEJIT!
FallsRNat..I can't answer your question it doesn't make any sense.
@naraic123. Well stated. But I do wonder why Britain chose to build a new MI5 headquarters in Belfast last year. A very antagonisitic move in my opinion. Smacks of an attempt to stir up dissension.
I hate people that are try to bully the Queen, she has done notting to Ireland.
@dmoran60. Your post is typical of someone with a tenuous connection to Ireland seeing matters on the island through a very cloudy prism. Ask yourself who do these people represent, what is their support and what are their proposals for the peaceful future governance of the province. You will find that they are a vacuous group of criminals and social misfits representative only of themselves with no support . The Irish people - north and south - have consigned people like these to the past where they belong. The have nothing to contribute to either the present or the future. BTW enjoyed your Dan Quayle moment !
I'm only of Irish heritage born and raised in the USA. I really don't understand the continued use of the word terrorist in reards to the true IRA as you put it. When we here in America rebelled against unfair treatment at the hands of the Brits, were we no more than terrorists as we tried and succeded in taking away from the Bitish what was truly and legally theirs. The IRA is only an army trying to expel foreign occupation of their of what is their Sovereign soil. Are we terrorists for invading Iraq & Afghanistan to protect our freedom from those who would try to wrest it from us. Or have we tried to help an oppresssed people(s) and make the world a safer place for all, while in the process of protecting ourselves. It's about time the world stopped looking at the British occupation of part of Ireland as necessary and simply an expansion of their own property under the guise of a peacekeeping effort. f they want peace get the heck out of Ireland and stop trying to dominate and oppress a people they have tried to displace for centuries. The English tried outright domination and failed, they tried outright genocide (the potatoe blight) and failed. They continue to this day to oppress a people who will not allow themselves to be oppressed. Terrorists or Freedom Fighters. Collateral damage is always a ciicumstance of war, and I don't condone all targets the IRA has picked to attack. I do support the idea if Britain leaves Ireland there would be no further need for the IRA. If they want the Queen and the ass kissing President to be safe have them stay out of Ireland. If the Brits withdraw and there are people who wish to continue to kiss the monarchies ass let them moe to a legally held British land.
These 'british' soldiers come from Swords, Howth, Cork, Louth, Limerick, the dissidents are going to have a hard time identifying 'who's who' the soldiers won't their just look on facebook etc to see who these morons are. Why are Tom Elliott's comments so offensive to you Sir Peter, is it because he is a rep for the brits on this island, better to restrict the comments to verbal reasoning rather than your gun toting friends in the CIRA, RIRA or is it PIRA?
No matter what the historical significance, or disatisfaction by dissidents, I think for the safety of the British Queen,an elderly woman, she should not venture to Ireland.
Kilsally..I believe things fully when they happen. How many times does IC have to tell us.Ulster Unionist Party leader Tom Elliott saying "I see people with flags of a foreign nation here and calling Sinn Fein scum isn't exactly helpful to the peace process is it? Or is that perfectly OK in your mind?
GOD SAVE THE QUEEN.
How wonderful! Now the down Irish economy will really go into the crapper. If tourists are in the middle of a gun fight, you can kiss future tourist money goodbye!
Go home Lizzie,...Go on home British soldiers,....This is madness! Typical Anglo arrogance this is!
Not to mention Ireland's top Al-Qaeda suspect, Ibrahim Buwisir...I can't fathom her reasoning for visiting at this time...
One really has to wonder why the Queen would even entertain the thought of visiting Dublin given the threats posed by the IRA. Not only is she putting her own life at risk but also those of her security forces and the local Irish police and innocent civilians. Seems like a no-brainer to me.
sirpeter - you only have to look at the various dissident websites, 32 County Sovereignty Movement, Republican Sinn Fein and Eigri to know it`s probably true. They are stupid enough to think killing Catholic PSNI Officers helps their `cause`....
