Newly appointed Northern Ireland Secretary, Owen Paterson, said that the Queen has shown interest in visit to the Republic of Ireland to take in a stud farm.

A visit by the British monarch to Ireland would be a highly controversial one, but Paterson said it would be “absolutely marvelous."

“I discussed that with the last British ambassador [to Dublin] and with the current one,” he said.

“It would be tremendous if the queen did visit the Republic, particularly during the term of the current President, as she and her husband have done such tremendous work.”

He was referring to President Mary McAleese and her husband Martin, who have been deeply involved in reconciliation efforts in Northern Ireland .

“The queen does have a bit of an interest in going to Coolmore [stud], as I understand it. There are certainly plenty of good racing establishments,” said Paterson.

Coolmore, owned by the racing tycoons John Magner and Michael Tabor, is based in County Tipperary near Cashel and is one of the leading studs in the world.

Patterson is interested in horseracing himself. In fact, yesterday, he was due to attend a major horserace meet being held in York, Britain, but he had to change his plans due to his appointment to cabinet.

“I do compare notes on racing with the Taoiseach,” he said.

to a stud farm , you say? i wonder what she has in mind. could she be a little randy? do they have horses, i wonder?
The Kennedy's are the 'Royalty' of Ireland. They can do no wrong. The red carpet rolled out in Tipperary this coming June with Awards, plaques and busts unveiled to Ted. Every last one of them a crook. Poor Lizzie. All she wants to do is look at a horse and is already bereft of Cead Mille Failte.
The Queen doesn't actually have any power over the English retaining Northern Ireland. David Cameron is the guy to talk to lol. I think it would be nice for the Queen to visit Ireland.
We should ask the queen, “Just how many studs would it take, for her to put an end to this 800 year English infection up in the north of our country”?
No royal visit to the Republic until they give up all rights title and interest in Ireland. Then the secret royalists among us, can "pucker up" and give her highness the "kissing up" she and they delight in.
Not too sure she is welcome in Ireland. I could be wrong.
Hope she pays a visit to Loughmoe while she's in the neighborhood!
Kind of like ping pong diplomacy with China. Liz should go to the Republic and this is a good 'in' to do so.
Doesn't she have her own stud?
