Patrick Kennedy, son of Massachusetts Senator Edward Kennedy, and former Rhode Island Congressman, will marry his fiancée, Amy Petitgout, at the family compound in Hyannis, Cape Cod, MA.

The 43-year-old will marry the New Jersey middle school teacher this Friday in a closed ceremony. A spokesperson for the Kennedy family told, the Associated Press, that it will be a small and intimate event.

Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer will officiate. The ceremony will be close to the press.

Speaking to the Associate Press one month before his engagement in March, of this year, Kennedy spoke about Petitgout reffering to the title of his father's book, "True Compass".

He said "My father spoke about his true compass, guiding him through his journey of life. I have found mine with Amy…She has helped me navigate the uncharted waters of life beyond politics and given me the reason to look forward to a personal life with family and friends."

Petitgout, has a 3-year-old daughter, Harper, from a previous marriage. In a written statement she released before the engagement she said "We feel so fortunate to have found each other…Patrick is caring and values me, giving me friendship and love. He has become part of my family and loves my daughter as his own."

Kennedy represented Rhode Island's 1st Congressional District as a Democrat for 16 years, from 1995 to 2011. He left Congress this January.

Since then he has been named as a fellow at Brown University and is campaigning to improve brain research.

Kennedy has struggled with substance abuse and depression over the years and has sought treatment several times.  Friends have said in the past that Kennedy's personal life often took a backseat to his career, until now.

Since leaving Congress, he has been focusing on mental health advocacy and recently accepted a two-year visiting fellowship at Brown University's Institute for Brain Science.

He is also working on a memoir, "Coming Clean" which is scheduled to be published November 8.
