Congressman Patrick Kennedy of Rhode Island has called new US senator Scott Brown "a joke," after he moved up his swearing in to vote against a supporter of labor unions.

“Brown’s whole candidacy was shown to be a joke today when he was sworn in early to cast his first vote as an objection to Obama’s appointment to the National Labor Relations Board,’’ Kennedy told a reporter for the congressional newspaper, The Hill, on Thursday.

“Seven out of 10 of Brown’s voters were labor households and he stressed that he was independent and while he was originally scheduled to be sworn in next week, they moved it up to today so he could cast his first vote, the most anti-labor, the most anti-what his constituents thought they were voting for when they voted for him,’’ Kennedy said.

Reaction was quick for Republicans who believe they have a shot at Kennedy's Rhode Island seat. “Patrick Kennedy’s desperate remarks are an insult to the same voters who revered his uncle and the sure sign of a flailing candidate with abysmal poll numbers,’’ said Jennifer Nassour, the chairman of the Massachusetts Republican Party.

But Rhode Island State Representative John J. Loughlin II, who is running against Kennedy, said the comments were not surprising.

“I’ve seen Congressman Kennedy make some pretty outrageous statements before he ever even knew who I was,’’ Loughlin said in an interview with The Boston Globe. “

A poll on Friday showed Kennedy with only 35 percent support in his district and a 56 percent disapproval rating.

Patrick Kennedy has been nothing short of an embarrassment his entire adult life. He is just envious of Scott Brown's success in taking "the people's seat" in Massachusetts. He's showing just how a spoiled child re-acts when they lose what they thought was always theirs just for the taking because of a name!!!
May God reward him for the murder of millions of unborn children and other Kennedy abominations against God and man. Here's praying that our soft Irish hearts and heads don't get all sentimental over the back door hitting this one in the backside. The three great ones in their lineage departed over 40 years ago. "Servants to the people?" Granpa Joe made his millions off of the alcoholic weakness of the people during Prohibition. Papa Ted never looked back on the night he left a passenger to drown in the back of a car, a night that should have ended his political career. Let's support the Irish Republican in RI -- voting knee jerk Demoncrat is not a vindication of your Irishness, you leftist loons!
Thankfully he is the last Kennedy to be in Washington. He has now thoughtfully and thankfully and finally decided not to run again. Good!!! Riddence!!! to the galactically mentally incompetent drug user.
Cork City, your silence is a tell. Not interested in the truth? Obviously not.
WASN'T IT THE DEMOCRATS THAT FLEW ONE OF IT'S OWN BACK TO WASHINGTON FROM HIS MOTHER'S FUNERAL TO CAST HIS VOTE??????????
Patrick Kennedy is the SON of the late Senator Ted Kennedy...not his nephew.
Cork city's comment earlier in this thread. "And finally, everyone who knows anything about the history of this nominee knows that the Repubs. have been stonewalling this appointment, like many other OBama nominees and legislation". Well Mr Corkcity, only 52 votes for the candidate.. what happened to the Dems? The Republicans and Scott Brown cannot be blamed on this one. Correct? What say you now, kind sir?
none of the kennedys ever worked a day in their life at an honest job. they pretend to be for the working man, but how many of them ever belonged to a union and ACTUALLY really and truly worked an 8 hr shift? all of them collect money from trusts set up by their fathers, that came from prohibition and back room dealing. them calling someone a joke is like barney frank calling obama a drag queen.
you ain't laughing though are you Pat????
If Scott brown is a joke then Patrick Kennedy is the punch line. Somebody will explain it to him when he gets voted out of office.
Where is my reply to McNamara31? There was nothing but honest contention in it. It was challenging of his views but not disrespectful in the least. In fact, there were points of agreement. If you at Irish Central cannot deal with an opposing point of view your entire existence is a sham.
Go Brown, go!
To Mike Rock: Patrick would probably enjoy kissing your seat. . .if you get my drift. . .
patrick is an erse. . .he is the joke. . .all the kennedys are jokes.
Beachdad My point is bigger than Coakley, Frank or Patrick Kennedy. This simplistic approach to just "throw people out" without any bearing on facts of how we got here, will only do futher damage and prolong any correction to our financial mess. If the change "did not" occur to the Net Capital rule in 2004, the massive banking and CDO (Collateralized Debt Obligation) debt could not have been accumulated.
