The Irish run The White House, even President Obama admits it. During the recent round of Saint Patrick's Day celebrations at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue the president made a point of acknowledging the common Irish heritage of key members of his second-term administration.

'My new chief of staff is a McDonough,' the president said. 'My national security adviser is a Donilon. Our new CIA director is a Brennan. My head speechwriter is a Keenan. And Joe Biden has very kindly agreed to stay on as Irishman in chief.'

According to Robert Schmuhl, Professor of American Studies at the University of Notre Dame, the new level of Irish-American influence at the White House is both remarkable and unprecedented.

Writing in the Irish Independent this week, Schmuhl remarked that even the president himself likes to gamely trace the roots of his own family tree back to Moneygall, County Offaly on his mother's side.

House Republicans are also reportedly eager to get in on the Irish act including Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy, Paul Ryan, chair of the Budget Committee, and Peter King, a Congressional leader in homeland security and counterterrorism.

Ryan was Mitt Romney's failed vice-presidential running mate in last year's election that featured two Irish Americans (Ryan and Biden) going head to head in the second spot on the ballot.

At the lunch this week for the visiting delegation from Ireland the president said, 'The curse of the Irish is not that they don't have an opinion about anything, it's that they have an opinion about everything. So it's not hard to see why politics has always been a good fit.'

The president also paid tribute to the consensus building power of the delegation from Ireland.

'We spend the whole year trying to bring this town together,' Obama quipped, 'and these leaders are able to do it in a single afternoon. So my question is: How long can you stay?'

The statement by this political scientist would have been much more correct in the early 1960s that it is today. I was serving in the Marine Corps at that time and my chain-of-command included Commander-in-Chief Jack Kennedy, Sec. of Defense Robert McNamara (also Platoon Commander Lt. Hamill, and Squad Leader Mike Kelly). In those days the Attorney General was Bobby Kennedy and Senator Keating was one on N.Y.s senators.
@casualMBA Flying above the Radar gets you no where if not sends you backwards but you're entitled to you're circular statements. The Irish fair well in the US because they have been part of the system from the start and know it well. Further more Irish people had to more or less work hard and fight for what they have and we have the scars to prove it. Whats best is actually diverse and subject to opinion. So celebrate Irish Heritage but yeah lets leave it at that unless you plan to go live there. Lines of Diplomacy and Business etc do not need to be racially clouded. That's corrupt. Its like using the Cops to be a stupid bitch just because I couldnt say I love you and I know you really love me late at night on the telephone when in reality there was nothing to worry about and now they know how much weed you be smoking all the time. What? Sorry does that make any sense to you. Ok so now you know how I feel WTF. Oh yeah how about them blinds Dog. Late at night when your sleeping hoa.
Cheryl is a moron.

The political muscle of Irish ancestry might be more impressive if it were not distracted and obsessed by the latest “issue of the season or year” and, in fact, looked past the glitter of “gay representation,” “immigration quotas” when there are 9.1 million illegal immigrants of Hispanic origins, the latest Mayoral race, or the latest possible business deal with implications for Ireland. If this competent political leadership were to focus on the long term cultural integrity of Ireland, and Ireland’s (and America’s) fiduciary and historic responsibilities for the preservation of its best cultural values, Ireland, and Americans of Irish ancestry would be better served.
My name is Tyler Durden and I mean Mayhem to.

Although born in England and raised in Ireland, olitically my FULL allegiance is to the U.S. (in whose military I HONORABLY served).Genetically I'm completely Irish and my U.S. citizenship did NOT alter my DNA in the least. Culturally i am also Irish agus to nî mo ná cúpla Gaeilge agam. I should also mention that my being Irish has NOTHING to do with the Partitionist gov't of the Southern Irish staste; my cultural heritage applies to the WHOLE Irish nation and all its parts (an náisiún uile agus gach roinn de).
Germany, Ireland, England, Italy, Norway, Portugal, America. We Rule.
You do not have to be Irish to be Irish. But you know you are American and you put America first even if your from Ireland by happenstance or if you were born there but are now an American Citizen. America does not even allow Duel Citizenship. As far as it goes you can celebrate your heritage but that's about it. You cant claim the 'Irish' are running the Whitehouse and expect to be taken serious, its just Onion. This kind of talk can threaten the Irish, people who live in Ireland, as much as it threatens Americans, those who are born in the USA or have US citizenship. The thing I like about America is that it has such a rich culture from all over the world. The Irish have been there from the Beginning or even before as the story of St Brendan and the Tribe of Hare exclaims. However the US government is not impartial to anyone not even Australia (despite the myth of it).
the irish do as they be told by our ETERNAL brethern - nice try at the DIVERT.
Too true! We run the World Bank, the Bilderberg Group, several secret societies and 100% of the Guinness. Add to that list that Ireland has all the pretty girls and I would suspect that the New (Irish) World Order is upon us!
Its funny how some despise the fact that Americans are proud of their Irish heritage and wear it on their sleeves. Yet they will also complain that those Irish Americans don't send enough back to Ireland because they forget their Irish Heritage. You will take our money but deny us our heritage?
@fitzyboy . . . Words and their arrangement matter more than many people realize. If you were born and raised in America you are American, as you would agree, but you are not also anything else -- without diminshing your American-ness. You are not Irish. You are *OF* Irish ancestry, or you *HAVE* Irish-Catholic heritage, but you *ARE* American only, period full stop. ................................................To lazily speak of yourself as *being* Irish is to marginalize yourself and your fellow Americans-with-Irish-ancestry to an informal second-class citizenship. . . exactly what the bigots want.
Are you sure these Irish-Americans are really Irish? Did anyone bother to check for their $150 "Certificates of Irishness"?
