The article states that one of the "minor offences" comitted by illegal aliens is "driving without a license". In the late '80s I knew a hard working waitress who had to show documentary proof that she was a LEGAL resident before her application for a driver's license was accepted at a Yonkers MVD. This Mayo native had for lobng paid taxes to the IRS, NY State, NYC (where she worked) and Yorkers (where she lived). Yet no one regarded her treatmnt by the MVD as anti-immigrant, anti-fornegner or anti anthing else. This English-speaking,good living, hard working, tax-paying Irish waitress had to fully comply with all the immgration laws at all times- while making valuable contributions to community, state and nation.

Does the new policy mean that illegal aliens who are availing themselves of taxpayer-funded programs are free to commit misdemeanors without any fear of deportation or reduction on their free benefits. If that is so, it sends entirely the WRONG message to others who are now living here illigally and availing themselves of such free benefits, also to would-be immigrants who plan to unlawfully enter the U.S.

If they have already committed a crime by entering the country illegally isn't that reason to deport them ? No matter for minor the crime they were arrested for they are still here illegally. We need immigrants but they should wait their turn as others in the home country do.
