New priest pedophile scandal set to break in Ireland

Cork diocese now the target of new investigation

Eight cases concerning a pedophile priest in County Cork accused of raping young girls have been sent back to authorities there after originally being rejected.

All of the files relate to abuse allegations alleged to have been carried out by Father B, a cleric who assaulted and raped girls in North Cork.

The diocese of Cloyne and its former bishop John Magee are already under separate investigations for harboring pedophile priests.

Magee was Secretary to three popes and was a leading figure in the Irish church until the pedophile investigations began. Opponents claim he used his clout to block investigations

In recent years  prosecutors rejected the new case files separately, despite the fact that they all have marked similarities.

Last autumn, the latest two files were returned and as a result, the victims mounted a public campaign questioning why their criminal cases had been denied a trial.

Some of the woman whose files were returned have received compensation from the diocese and written apologies.

"The archbishop has repeatedly said that if there are any more victims out there, they should come forward and lodge complaints.

"Our fear is that if they hear of all these cases being rejected, they won’t see the point of going to the gardaí," one victim told the Irish Examiner.

Another file also alleging abuse by Father B is currently under review at the office of the prosecutor.

The Rape Crisis Center has urged the prosecutor to meet with victims in Cloyne to discuss his decision not to prosecute their cases.

Mommie3..That is a good question..I'm not sure what the answer is myself..The only two logical answers i can think of at the moment is..There was fear involved and the child felt they didn't have a choice ..or at the time the child enjoyed it and liked the attention it was receiving. Children crave adult attention if they are not receiving it at home.I would imagine a pedophile would spot that a mile off. I suppose McNamara31 will jump down my throat for posting this..But i must read some of those stories by the victims.If the victim was in an institution I would imagine it was fear..If the child lived at home..It seems a bit more complex.

I'm not blaming the parents or the victims, McNamara,I'm merely asking a question that defies logic. How is it possible for teenage victims to repeatedly put themselves into the same situation? Many of them never told their parents.

JimMcGarity...There was just much pedophilia in the protestant churches as a matter of fact a few percentage points more. But the protestant churches are more diverse. It easier to bash the catholic because it's more centralized.

I wish just sometimes the press would report the pedophiles in other religions or schools and many other groups. They just want to bring down the one at the top.

"How could these teenagers put themselves in the position to be repeatedly molested by the same priest?" You seem to blame the parents.. Blame the victim.. You should read the stories of the parents and families of the abused in Boston during the days of Cardinal Law. The mother's pleading with Cardinal Law to do something. You should read the stories of the 200 deaf boys abused in the U.S. and the story of Canon lawyer Fr. Tom Doyle and how he was "ignored" when he told the Vatican just how vast the abuse problem was in the church.

Hey, hey all you IC habitual ranters: HoundofFluster, BrotherMaureen, glorybenot1929 (howling at the wind from the mists of the early part of the last century), monahanjock, ciloweenie, Advocado and Interscissor... yes, I'm talking to you people who love to show-up on every thread that even remotely offers a whiff of warm Catholic blood flowing in the streets, to pile it on; to paint the entire Church and clergy with the same broad brush-strokes, in a hopeless effort to hasten the demise of the object of your hatred.... you should have watched the "March for Life West Coast" on Saturday, and should be watching the "March for Life" in Washington going on at this very moment, to get a small idea as to where your fantasies hit the wall, like hapless bugs on a windshield! -- Yes, go ahead, flip the channel from that fat bottomed queen, Oprah, to CSPAN and EWTN and catch the broadcast and re-runs to see the sea of people, along with the new crop of Congressmen offering new hope and change --- thousands of priests and Bishops speaking on the podium and marching along with hundreds of thousands of Catholic youth from schools; families of 6 and 10 children; Hasidic Jews marching with Orthodox priests; black preachers with their congregations speaking against the 'black genocide' being carried out by the halfrican prez, conniving with "Planned Murderhood"; and yes, not only thousands or Irish descendants braving the cold, but pro-life activists from Ireland and other parts of Europe here for the event. -- One would think IC would find this 'newsworthy,' but you can't blame them, their span of attention is low and they are probably too busy scouting for the next gay or trannie Irish notable who might lead the St. Patrick's Day parade.

Yahweh/God did NOT make a mistake when He made male and female as sexual beings. He created and defined the institution of marriage for us! Along came some man who changes the rules by creating a rule agaist the nature of man! Nobody but Yahweh has such authority. Nowhere can this man-made doctrine be found in Scripture and this doctrine has created a big, un-natural problem! ALL responsible for enforcing such un-natural doctrine, (against human-nature), this should be jailed along with the actual pedilile! (Emphasis 'ALL'...)

I'm with you Pittsburghkid; keep calling out these so- called 'IC columnists' on their flimsy stories. Most of the ones printed here don't bother to be encumbered by facts; they are minimally, if ever, supported and border on the slanderous.--- No doubt the relentless attacks seek the ultimate discrediting and marginalization of the Catholic Church; which would cease if at some point the Church decided to turn around and demanded that the 'editor' of IC either ask for specific facts from his scandal-mongers (Hayes, O'Doherty, Moldoon, Roberts and even O'Dowd himself), or be subject to libel. But they feel comfortable this won't happen, because in the end the Church as a whole is in the business of 'redemption' not condemnation. Meanwhile these people, the so-called 'columnists,' will continue to be hell-bent on trying to emulate -albeit in some small and pathetic way- either the NYT or the Inquisition, to the delight of 'the usual suspects': pant-suited ex-nuns demanding retribution for being denied the priesthood; from lawyers seeking a piece of the action, and from piddly cyber-rags seeking a corner, however small, in the publishing world attracting readers (like the Enquirer, The Globe and the Sun), with 'teasers' and sensationalism.

@Pittsburghkid Freaked out? It's Ireland... the word alleged doesn't exist..everyone knows everyone's business.. we spent a whole night at home discussing who was the pedophiles in each of out 5 different towns... Talk about somewhere you know. These girls came forward most likely they're speaking the truth.
