A Catholic priest who deported from the United States to Ireland in 2001 after he served time in jail for child abuse in California has been committed for trial on pornography charges in Dublin.

Fr Oliver O’Grady from Tipperary will be tried on charges of possessing and importing child pornography, which includes images of children as young as two years of age.

The 65-year-old defrocked priest served seven years in an American prison after he was found guilty of rape, molestation and lewd and lavacious acts on children during his time as a priest in California.

O’Grady, now resident in the Dublin suburb of Ranelagh, is accused of possessing thousands of pornographic images of children.

He was arrested in December of last year and charged of possession of child pornography. Further charges followed of allegedly possessing and importing child pornography at Dublin Airport and possession of child pornography at a storage unit in Tallaght.

Initially remanded on bail, he appeared in Dublin’s District Court on Thursday when he was served with a book of evidence by Detective Garda Johanna Doyle.

Detective Doyle told the court: “We are talking about thousands upon thousands of images of child pornography. Children from the age of two and three up to teenage boys and girls.”

Judge William Early directed that the case be returned for trial at the Dublin Circuit Criminal Court and granted legal aid and bail to the defendant.

O’Grady, who has had his passport seized, spoke briefly during the case to confirm he understood.

Why do we sentence this people only to let them out to do the same again. Ireland should adopt the system seen in some US states. No release until the criminal goes throgh a proper system of treatment.
O'Grady is receiving a stipend (€11,000) annually from the US Catholic Church in California - the US Church negotiated a $400 million loan from ,,,, wait for it ,,,, wait ,,, Allied Irish Banks - the bank that likes to say yes to those who facilitated child abuse by clergy - and is owned now by Irish citizens and is described as 'another dead Irish bank walking'!
In reading previous posts, I am reminded that religion is one of the vehicles for insanity..................
"lavacious" I believe the word butchered here was lascivious....................
Oh com'on what are the chances that he would reoffend ;) Yet he lives not in jail but in Ranelagh. WTF?
Belated responses -- @SingleDonald - 5/21/11, 10:30 post: Hard to find one other poster who so clearly details the unmitigated and obsessive lust in his heart. So far every single word of yours I've seen posted on IC reveals you as nothing deeper than an inveterate horn dog. Not only that.. but you attempt to take the measure of others, especially those in the priesthood with the same measure you measure yourself. 'Nuff said!
Willthe Oliver O'Grady story ever see the light of day in a diocesan publication? Of course not. That type of information would slow down the healing process our Tucson bishop would say. Nothing bad about the bishops can ever be printed in the diocesan paper.
There's not too much written by Richard Sipe I haven't read and recommended to others, (did you read his article on the treatment of clergy with aids by the church), and Thomas Doyle, who has done so much in supporting those abused; they make a great team the two of them and have the respect of many including mine. Dave Hunt also has a mention in my library, it seems we are both well read.
The Perilous Fondness for the Papacy' / by Richard Bennett, Biblical Apologist & former R.C. Priest / Source: BereanBeacon.org***Overview of the Apostate Church / PART TWO***She cannot be heathen Rome of which there was no mystery because her character was never concealed. “Christian” Rome, however, is a mystery, for she is not what she appears. Babylon, in the book of Revelation, is a city and a harlot. Jerusalem, in the same book, is a city and a bride. Babylon is the fraudulent lover of earthly kings; Jerusalem, the chaste bride of the King of Kings. The contrast is between the faithful Church and the Apostate Church. Chapter Seventeen thus describes in detail the character of the Apostate Church."***In Revelation 18, verse 4, Christ gives His people an unambiguous command:". . . . Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues."***Chapter 18 of the Book of Revelation describes in detail the plagues / judgment of the Lord God that come upon the great whore!
MORE on the PEDOPHILE PLAGUE that continues to rage within the not so holy RCC***Source: Capital News – KENYA /Article: Kenya listed in Ireland clerical abuse probe / Date: MAY 24, 2011***A TV documentary by Irish broadcaster RTE highlighted allegations of abuse by priests and religious brothers in Kenya, Nigeria and South Africa, with accounts from victims, many speaking for the first time about their ordeals.Irish Justice Minister Alan Shatter said he had watched the programme aired on Monday "with a sense of revulsion at the unspeakable catalogue of abuse against children it revealed". The One in Four group that deals with abuse victims said it had been "inundated with calls" after the documentary was shown. Executive director Maeve Lewis said the programme was "sickeningly recognisable".It "told the same story that we are so familiar with in Ireland: vulnerable children being targeted and abused by priests and brothers while the Catholic authorities deny the abuse and protect the sex offenders."Missionaries and aid workers occupy powerful positions in the developing world by virtue of their control over the distribution of resources."Any abuse of that position is deeply wrong, but using it to groom desperately poor children is utterly evil," Lewis said. Ireland, a predominantly Catholic country, has been rocked by a series of child sex abuse scandals involving clerics.
The Perilous Fondness for the Papacy' / by Richard Bennett, Biblical Apologist & former R.C. Priest / Source: BereanBeacon.org***Overview of the Apostate Church"The Holy Spirit in Revelation Chapter Seventeen vividly depicts the features of the Apostate Church. It is done in graphically precise detail. The Apostle John beheld the ten-horned beast carrying a woman dressed in purple and scarlet, decked with gold, precious stones, and pearls, a harlot, and the mother of harlots and abominations. She is the paramour of kings, merciless, cruel, intoxicated with the blood of the saints and of the martyrs of Christ Jesus. These symbols are brilliantly portrayed. “The seven heads are seven mountains, on which the woman sitteth” (v 9).This the Holy Spirit clarifies by proclaiming, “the woman which thou sawest is that great city which reigneth over the kings of the earth” (v 18). The city indisputably is Rome. The name upon the harlot’s brow is “mystery” (v 5).
I think that the Church has learned that the devil is lurking in it's shadows. In the days ahead, Christians will be attacked and persecuted. We must remain strong in our faith !
Collette2 . . in conclusion . . Thomas Patrick Doyle on “the Papacy ***The various titles, roles and offices attributed to popes, bishops and priests are not products of divine revelation but of human invention, often as a response and reaction to serious external threats to the power and wealth of the clerical aristocracy. For example, and it’s a good example, Papal Infallibility was literally invented by Pope Pius IX and forced through the First Vatican Council...for political reasons. The pope’s kingdom, the Papal States, was threatened with dissolution by the Italian social upheaval at the time. Likewise the title “Vicar of Christ” was part of a conscious program of a medieval pope to fortify papal power. This title has had a long and complex and by no means consistent history. It was not applied to the Papacy until the 13th century when Pope Innocent III took it to enhance his overall program of actively concentrating just about all power in the Church in the papacy. Consequently this massive institution seeks above all to preserve itself. Sexual abuse of children or anyone by members of the sacred elite is potentially disastrous for the image, credibility and hence the power of the Church. Collette2 . . . The soul searching reflections of Thomas P. Doyle, R.C. Priest & Clergy Abuse Victim's Advocate / Pt. 2.***My serious questioning started when I found myself on the inside looking out as the clergy sex abuse scandal started to unfold back in 1984. As I saw first-hand the duplicity and institutionalized lying of the self-proclaimed "successors of the Apostles" I slowly began to wonder if the apostles weren't actually a cabal of anti-Christian dolts or on the other hand, I wondered if the infallible connection between the popes, bishops and church monarchy was neither infallible nor divinely willed. It was not exactly a pleasant or secure feeling as my not-quite-paralyzed brain began to ask the inevitable question: "If they can easily lie about raping innocent little children, can they just as easily lie about everything else?" The next stop on the journey was actually the first stop: taking the risk of asking myself what was and was not true and viable about everything else I had been told to believe. I finally paused long enough to let soak in the reality of this deeply embedded dynamic: I (all of us actually) had been consistently told what I must believe. I had never been asked to believe or offered the option of figuring the basics out for myself. " This no longer worked for me. Article: 'Clergy Sexual Abuse Bibliography' / website: 'Richard Sipe . . Collette2 . . . This is a quote from Thomas Patrick Doyle which I have often replicated here, but perhaps you never read it.***The soul searching reflections of Thomas P. Doyle, R.C. Priest & Clergy Abuse Victim's Advocate: “Over the course of my years of involvement with the clergy sexual abuse "happening" I have learned that the damage done to the spirituality of the victims has been considerable and in many ways, more difficult to deal with than either the emotional or psychological damage. The victims are not alone in suffering grave spiritual damage. Many of those directly or even indirectly involved with this whole complex phenomenon have found themselves in a growing quandary with their belief systems. I am one of them. For years my belief system and the objects of my faith were gradually shifting, often in ways I did not even notice. Most of what I had been taught about Faith, about Beliefs, about Trust in the human or earthly dimensions of the community of believers, the institutional Church, came under assault. I had believed what the official church had told me without much questioning. I accepted that the Church was what it was and I bought into all of the standard explanations for the historical departures of the institutional Church and its leaders from basic Christian decency and certainly from honesty...like the inquisition, the crusades, the approval of slavery, the colonization of the new world and the Vatican's diplomatic ties to Hitler and Mussolini.
