A 14-week-old puppy called Taz is being regarded as a ‘miracle pup’ after he survived eleven stab wounds after being left for dead in a dumpster.

Reporter News writes that owner Larry Dollins, Jr. (42) of Abilene, Texas, is facing one count of animal cruelty and is being held under $25,000 bail at the Texas Taylor County Jail.

Miracle puppy Taz, who is described as having a “really loving attitude” by Dr Natalie Matthews, is being monitored at Key City Veterinary Clinic in Abilene and is expected to survive.

Dr Matthews had nothing but good things to say about little Taz. “She's such a loving dog. She wags her tail and wants to be loved on. She's an innocent animal and has a very positive outlook on life despite what she's been through in the last 24 hours. She's a really remarkable animal."

With Taz’s abuse being placed in the media, Dr Matthews expects the puppy to be adopted by someone on the waiting list within 24 hours.

Officers from the Abilene Police Department were informed about the abuse and responded to a call at Dollins’ home.

Detective with the APD Ernest  Moscarelli said ,“There's some good people in the neighborhood — and we got involved. From there, a report was taken. We know who the owner of the dog is and who was involved in hurting the dog. ... I really don't know the motive, I am being told several things, like the dog may have been sick. But after talking to the veterinarian, that's not the case. I'll know more when ... we ask him that."

A neighbor of Dollins, Cheryl Ascol, saw the crime take place and remembers the stabbing as “malicious.”

“I screamed at him and told him to please stop stabbing the dog," said Ascol. "But he kept on walking toward me with the dog. I ran back inside and started calling everyone.”

Dollins, a paroled felon, could face up to two years in jail for the felony of animal abuse.

@ciaradexy I understand where you are coming from and it's good to demand that animals be treated with kindness. But when frustration flips over to giving the perpetrator a dose of mistreatment in par with his/her cruelty. Are you not lowering yourself by inflicting cruelty yourself?Animals want to be protected and that's good. But revenge is satisfyingly your own emotions. They should be fined even imprisoned for severe cases. But I wouldn't sanction harming these ignorant cruel people.
I dont have issues with animals being eaten but i do have issues with how they are treated before they are killed. I do some work in the DSPCA is Stocking Lane and the cruelty I have seen is just horrific. My point was that for example, if someone locks dogs in small cages and they have to live in their own rubbish and arent fed, then maybe the perpetrator should have a dose of the same treatment. No one should be allowed get away with this sort of treatment. Serial killers usually start with animals before moving onto people.
@ciaradexy.I don't wish to disrespect your beliefs.I only wish to be fair in my own mind. But I just can't condone treating a human being to the same fate that a human being treats an animal.Animals for food at just not treated all that good. But I keep eating my steak.
Anyone who abuses animals should be treated in the same manner as the animal was.
Its a difficult one to forget Sirpete! I was out at the weekend with my Irish mates and buddies from India, Catalunya and Argentina. One of my mates is just back from teaching English in Spain. He was never classed as vermin there just like the others arent here! Seems to be the foreigners with the issues on this site.
@ciaradexy.Nice one for remembering when Georgie Boy called all the immigrants vermin. That comment needs to used a lot more often.A lot more often.
I sometimes do tend to go a bit mad but not a racist waffler kinda mad!
@ciaradexy Oh OK.He does use the word liar a lot.I thought you meant me.haha..I can see now you were quoting people.I thought you were losing the plot and turning into Georgie Boy.I though he finally got to you somehow and you were doing such a great job.Anyway don't let me hold you up.Give Georgina no rest.;))and his lover Gobshite;))
Sirpeter, I was quoting a post by georgie! The part in brackets with your name , is taken directly from his post. I wasnt saying anything negative about you! I just replaced the word 'Ireland' with 'America'.
I think the man responsible should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law and barred from having any contact with dogs in the future...and watched very closely because obviously he is capable of great cruelty and horrific acts of violence. And I think the woman who called authorities should be given an award.
I am so tired of reading arguments that have absolutely nothing to do with the horrendous acts of INDIVIDUALS. I am even more tired of people who do go around abusing anmials. These INDIVIDUALS who abuse not only animals, but their fellow human being, should get the same exact punishment that was inflicted on the abused. I wouldn't mind having the job.
@ciaradexy.Where did I deny there WASN'T widespread animal abuse in America? I never said that!!And I certainly never accused you of been a liar.My stand on animal abuse is that it is worldwide.~~Quote"Inbreeding in 'America' is ages old and this has produced a strain of PEOPLE whose total skull contents consists of the Medulla Obligata (or brain stem) which is only capable of involuntary control. Sure they can breath, blink their eyes and poop, but feel empathy? Not a chance!Unquote.Ciaradexy you're beginning to lose the plot now.Your facts have to be true. You can't blame all Americans for this cruelty because of one nutter. You are acting like Georgie Boy now.
No mention of the yank who threw a dog down a garbage chute last year now is there Georgie or is that the fault of the Irish too?
This is disgusting and the perpertrator should be kicked to death. Funny how cruelty issues in Ireland get way more attention from Georgina D. Let me just add something to these comments, something similar to what georgina and others have said in the past- Look on this photo, you 'Americans', and hang your heads in shame. I have posted elsewhere on this site about the widespread animal abuse in 'America', but I was ambushed by the clowns' chorus (posters such as sirpeter, OLoingsigh, TomSwinford etc) and accused of being a liar. Shameless skunks. Bogsidebunny-Sad as this story is it's not unusual. Great numbers of 'Americans' neglect, torture and starve their animals. WHY? Not because they're sadists who enjoy seeing nasty things and enjoy the pain of other. Because they're ignorant. Inbreeding in 'America' is ages old and this has produced a strain of people whose total skull contents consists of the Medulla Obligata (or brain stem) which is only capable of involuntary control. Sure they can breath, blink their eyes and poop, but feel empathy? Not a chance! Georgie-Not surprised. The 'Americans' have a very bad record with regard to abuse of animals. I could mention cases of cruelty to cats, horse and donkeys here that would sicken our 'Irish' readers but I'll refrain since it's holiday time. See, Georgie is an inbred hick! You Americans, youre vermin. You
I guess the link with Ireland is because Ireland too has produced disgusting cases of animal cruelty in the past year or two. The difference is that over there there seems to be no punishment for the perpetrators.
