Minister for Foreign Affairs Micheal Martin has unexpectedly ruled out the possibility of Ireland imposing economic sanctions on Israel and has also warned Irish citizens not to join any future aid missions by sea to Gaza.

The Minister yesterday told TDs how he wanted to leave the door open for future discussions with the Israeli government over economics and politics.

The announcement followed on from lengthy discussions concerning EU relations and agreements with Israel held by the Oireachtas Committee on European Affairs and attended by the Israeli Ambassador to Ireland, Zion Evrony. Ambassador Evrony also said that Israel was fighting Europe’s battle against terrorism on its soil.

TDs (Members of Parliament) speculated that alleged human rights abuses by Israel could have put that State in breach of the EU-Israel Association Agreement, a political and trade pact between the union and the southern Mediterranean nation

The Minister did come out against the boycotts, though, which seem to have enjoyed widespread support in Ireland: "it is quite clear to me,” said the Minister, “ that our influence in Israel would be lessened and our voice weakened if we were to advocate, futilely as I have pointed out, a policy of bans or boycotts."

Minister Martin also cautioned against further Irish citizens going on activist ships, saying that to do so was “very dangerous”.

George Davis...hahahaha...the pro-israel lobby in the EU... George Davis...why aren't you pro-Israel...? The Vatican policy and the Irish foreign policy...are the same...when the Vatican says no to Israel...the Irish foreign ministry jumps in step. Irish foreign policy is dictated by Rome. Go figure. The pro-Israel lobby in Israel...is about as strong as the pro-Israel lobby in the United Kingdom...it is nill... By the way, God Save the Queen!
Martin is a loser, just like all the lousy Fainna Fail.
Michael Martin does not control the purses of Irish consumers, and its most likely to appease the EU because Israel has entered the Market selling their wares to Europe without tarriffs and Ireland does a lot of business with Israel. There is NO way that HE can control what goods Irish consumers purchase, do try to remember that EMERALDEYES since it is YOU that is doing what you accuse others of. I am sick of the pathetic excuse that Israel is ONLY protecting itself, it does not have the right to do that in INTERNATIONAL WATERS, or to murder US or TURKISH citizens not to mention its blockade is ILLEGAL. There are more rockets going into Gaza than out of it. But they do not count to some, only the rockets INTO Gaza count. An israeli document stating "A country has the right to decide that it chooses not to engage in economic relations or to give economic assistance to the other party to the conflict, or that it wishes to operate using economic warfare" has been uncovered which is Israel enforcing the same conditions upon Gaza as was inflicted upon Jews in the Warsaw Ghetto during the second world war, and it is illegal to do so, but when have Israel ever cared what ANYONE else thought? They are a rogue nation and think they are a law unto themselves and the US supports them. And Israel is now going to take actions against countries and or citizens who engage in boycotts against them, it's okay for THEM to do that but anyone else who tries will be punished, can anyone say HYPOCRITE?? And TRY to remember JIM, that it is THOSE uninformed and misguided have a VOTE and might vote him out in the future :-)
Minister Martin is a very smart man. People should leave political differences between countries to the government agencies. The uninformed and the misguided can do a lot of damage to international affairs.
"Finally someone in my government that makes sense." You mean, by consistently refusing to take the moral side of any argument?
Finally someone in my government that makes sense. I think there are a lot of people on this site that have completely lost the plot and are fond of talking thru their arses!
Doing what he's told by the World's Master Race. I knew full well that power (appearing to be) chaps in other lands are obliged to do likewise. A cancer which is not confronted will spread rapidly to consume us all in time. They won't be happy until every goy is a slave, with technology its gonna be a breeze. It'll be totally so in time before Iran imagines a success with a bomb.
You just can't go around saying you're better than everyone else and expect them to agree with you.
So in effect we're being asked to not participate in either passive or active objection to Israels blockade of Gaza. Someone must be pulling his strings.
Forget politicians and their lack of a human spine and any understanding of right and wrong, though Martin is not the worst considering the throngs of rent boys lining up behind Davy Trimble and Davy Cameroon as "Friends of Israel". Brussels is as corrupt and shameless as Wash ing Town and the Mossad crew are busy bees bribing, blackmailing and murdering with impunity as the case may be to allow this supremacist apartheid entity in Palestine all the privileges of the Uruppean Union. Human rights be damned! Boycotting IZZ with the mark of the beast Barcode 729 was and remains our only option of showing the chosen master racers what we think of their barbarity. Saying no to LIDL's poisonous praties and every other tainted article to come from apartheid Palestine will eventually rid the world of xionism as surely as it shut their Afrikaner kousins in South Africa up. Onward to Palestine!
Looks like the pro-Israel lobby in the EU (countries that actually persecuted Jews in the past--Germany, Poland etc.) have told the hapless Martin to get with the program of persecution of the Palestinians!
What a spineless jellyfish is this guy Martin.
