Limerick man who sold home for $3.9 million buys it back for under $280,000
Businessman who sold house and 4.75 acres in 2005 buys back property at auction
A Limerick business man who sold his property and land for $3.9 million (€3 million) in 2005, has revealed he recently bought it back for $279,580 (€215,000).
Vincent Campbell confirmed to the Limerick Leader that he sold and bought back his own house and land at a recent property auction.
Speaking after the auction, he said “It’s a very unique story, It just shows how the whole world has gone, and unfortunately we all know what has happened in the eight years.” Campbell said he has no immediate plans for his site except to graze cattle on the land.
He had originally bought the house in 1986, and land in 1992. A flagship car dealership was intended for the site when it was sold privately in 2005, but building plans never went ahead.
The land remained idle until it was put up for sale by public auction on the instructions of a liquidator.
Campbell was delighted to have his home back for more than just financial reasons, saying “We spent 20 very happy years there [in Ballycummin], we raised our family there. It was a lucky place for us and not just selling it, we were very lucky in life there.
He is ready for the house and land which is located at Ballycummin, Raheen to become home once again.
“I was lucky that it was for sale again and I was in a position to buy it. I have very fond memories. I’m delighted to have it back,” he said.
