Britain’s Queen in waiting Kate Middleton has received SAS training against possible terrorist attacks and kidnap attempts from dissident groups like the Real IRA.

Dissident Republicans are on a list of potential threats to the newly married 29-year-old who was sent for the specialist training by concerned Buckingham Palace officials.

The Sun reports that the 29-year-old Middleton took the intensive personal protection programme recently amid fears that she has become a kidnap target.

Worldwide publicity around her recent wedding to Prince William has raised fears that Middleton could become a target for terrorists, abductors and stalkers.

“The Palace wants to ensure Kate’s new status doesn’t make her vulnerable to attack,” a source told The Sun.

“She has been well trained in what to do should the unthinkable happen. VIP kidnap protection training teaches how to cope both mentally and physically.

“The mental element involves reacting to unusual situations, such as when there was a stranger in the Queen’s bedroom — and she just started talking to him.”

The paper reports that the course, described as very tough both physically and mentally, teaches key a range of survival skills.

The report says these include becoming more aware of anything ‘unusual’ in routine surroundings, how to react when attacked and how to build a relationship with any hostage-takers.

Participants are also taught how to drive under pressure and how to create and pass on coded messages to rescuers.

The training course is taught by members of the SAS, Scotland Yard’s personal protection squad or MI5 officers, has been taken by other Royals as well as politicians and people who work in some of the world’s dangerous regions.

@beaumax99.By the way.The amount of IRA activity has always been equal to the amount of British injustice in NI.Apart from a few hardliners on all sides I think Kate is safe enough.I would imagine Islamic militants are 10 times more of a threat.

canadianirish - FYI it was dissident republicans that shot the journalist during the riots they were aiming for the police officers and missed. Am pretty sure Kate Middleton would also be a high profile target for Islamic militants as would any of the Royals hence the hooha when Prince Harry went to serve in Afghanistan - it is bound to be standard practise to give certain VIP targets some training on what to do and what not to do in a kidnap situation both here in the UK and in the USA.

Oh come on Cathal! This story has no foundation in fact. A reliable source-The SUN! The heir to the British throne and his wife, as with all senior members of the Royal family,are protected 24/7 by specially trained and armed 'Royal Protection Officers'-those anonymous suited men who are always two steps behind! They may well have briefed her her, but 'specialist training'? Just a bit of journalistic nonsense, nothing more!

I am not sure Katy has much to worry about besides the pervert/stalker type. She happens to be held in high esteem around much of the world.There would be no sympathy or joy in her death and would be disastorus for the group that carried it out. It's a new world, for better or worse...
