The accused’s brother, Liam Campbell is a convicted member of the Real IRA.

Prosecutors allege that Campbell had been ordered by his brother to bring the weapons back to Ireland.

Addressing the court, the accused said he had been “provoked” by an M15 agent to travel to Lithuania to in 208 to buy weapons.

He said he reasoning was it was a more lucrative business than cigarette smuggling.
"I am not a member of the Real IRA," he said.

He is also charged with being an informant for a terrorist organization.

Campbell’s attorney, Ingrida Botyriene, said: "His position is that the acts he is being tried for were provoked by the special services of the United Kingdom and Lithuania."

Kilsally and the other apologists continually take a swipe at pro-nationalist posts telling us to move on and forget the past.Their stance seems at the least disingenuous or maybe hypocritical.
#1, there is no IRA. They turned in their weapons and turned to the ballot box. And there is a peace agreement. #2, a man had to try to make a living to support his family, they're not hiring these days.
SF, RIRA, CIRA ..... and more to come. The central fact of this story is that MI-5 is at the bottom of everything - this is merely a case of another Campbell demonstrating their penchant for screwing up everything but soup.
Kilsally don't hold your breath for a negative story about Sinn Fein on this site, it wont happen. Reading this site you'd think Gerry Adams was the only politician in Ireland even though he is only a regular TD in one of the opposition parties. I remember a big story a year ago where three current Sinn Fein councillors & an IRA member were caught red-handed in a massive money counterfeiting operation in Co. Laois... Not a peep about it here!
It`s interesting there is rarely any stories about the victims on Irish Central. The Sinn Fein Culture Minister (a convicted bomber) has just appointed another convicted IRA bomber, Mary McArdle, as special advisor. She killed 22 year old school teacher Mary Travers and injured her father ( a Catholic magistrate) as they left mass. What about the lady census worker the IRA shot at point blank range in 1981 for the simple reason of being a census worker daring to do her work when the SF-IRA were boycotting the census?
