Irish woman trapped in a 12-year-old girl’s body, pleads for medical help

A 25-year-old Kilkenny woman suffers from rare Caudal Regression Syndrome, which leaves her trapped in a 12-year-old body.


A brave Kilkenny woman has gone public to reveal her torment at being trapped in a 12-year-old’s body – at the age of 25.

Kate Quinn from the village of Mooncoin suffers from a rare medical condition called Caudal Regression Syndrome (CRS) which results in an abnormal development of the lower spine.

Speaking to the Irish Independent newspaper, Kate has revealed her wish to be like other women her age.

Instead, the rare disease, which affects one in 25,000 people worldwide, has ensured she has never hit puberty, never had regular periods and never needed to buy a bra.

Opening her heart to the paper, Kate has also admitted that she believes she’ll never find love until she becomes a "real" woman.

Only diagnosed with the CRS condition two years ago, Kate is the only known sufferer in Ireland. She hopes her decision to go public will attract the attention of an expert who can help her.

Doctors believe the fact that Kate, 4’9” tall and trapped in a 12-year-old’s body, hasn’t gone through puberty is a side effect of her condition.

The paper states that, baffled by her illness, doctors have told Kate that the lack of hormone production is not usually related to the condition but could have been caused by the strain placed on her body by the CRS.

Having endured daily injections for seven years now, Kate is desperate to find help from an expert in the field.

“The longer it goes on, the worse you feel because at 12 or 14 you feel you might develop but now at 25 you start wondering if it’s too late and ask yourself if you’ll ever develop,” Kate told the Irish Independent.

“When you’re a girl you want to develop into a woman, so when that didn’t happen I was just left there.

“My body has yet to develop to the age it should be at, so I kind of hide away. I never was able to go and buy a bra, because I don’t even fit into the first bra you would wear.

“I’ve been in limbo with this problem since I was 14 and still there don’t seem to be any answers.”

@ciaradexy, are you for real? Have a little compassion for someone who has been suffering beyond belief. A little kindness and understanding wouldn't hurt. NO pun intended, but pick on s/one your own size!

This woman should be glad she wont be able to get pregnant. Imagine going through a pregnancy only to give birth to something as repulsive and vile as Georgie boy! yuck!

I think you may have some luck with the recently founded Bee For Battens Foundation there in Ireland. They're main focus is children with rare genetic conditions/diseases, but Tony Heffernan may be able to help put her in touch with a geneticist or endocrinologist in the UK or the US that may be able to help. Their cause has been well championed in Ireland, and they have a great website at BeeforBattens.com. I'm sure you're a beautiful lady as you are, but I wish you the best of luck with your situation.

M-finucane I'm serious about the healer JOHN OF GOD his record speaks for itself!! I mean this in positive way for another alternative for Kate to find the help she needs wether it be through god or medicine. It sounds like tis poor girl in going trough a lot emotionally as well as physically. Some people find it hard to believe that there actually is genuine healers on this earth that are blessed with gifts from god to help people. I'm fortunate to have witnessed healings on these levels through JOHN OF GOD and with two of my relatives that were healed of cancer one had a brain tumor nadnthe other had cancer behind the liver both are alive today one was 12 years ago and the other was 25 years ago. With gods blessing they live to tell the story!! I just joined today to leave a comment as I don't usually get involved in these forums. It's just another avenue for this lady to try. God bless her and give her the healing she needs!! Peace and love to all even to people who leave the negative comments as they need help too.

FIRST, LET ME SAY I AM NOT A MEDICAL PERSON. BUT PLEASE CHECK WITH A DR. THIS SOUNDS LIKE TURNER SYNDROME . A PROBLEM WITH ONE OF THE X CHROSOMES. TURNER WOMEN TEND TO GO THROUGH PUBERTY AND MENOPAUSE EARLY AND LOOK EXTREMELY YOUNG. THEY ARE ALSO HIGHLY INTELLIGENT, USUALLY WAY ABOVE AVERAGE. CHECK WITH A DOCTOR PLEASE

O my goodness, at 25 you should feel all those great feelings of love and lust and travel, clothes and friends and traveling and work and boys, girls or whatever you are into. Whatever way you find help to deal with this is great and I wish you all the best. I am sure someone will read and give you information, funds or whatever it takes to assist you. Don't be shy to accept and move forward as best you can. What other people think is none of your business and just stay positive with your search. Staying at home and dwelling on feeling sorry for yourself, shame of it or whatever is a waste of valuable time now. Write to as many specialists or doctors in the world as possible and do not be afraid to ask. If something positive come out of this for you make sure you pass it on to others like you. Don't take any notice of what negative, sad, unkind people say on sites like this. You are a lovely person inside and out and believe in yourself, you are a beautiful human being that god created and your here for a reason. If you don't love yourself how do you except others to love you. Go for it girlfriend. You rock!!!

In these times of modern medicine you would think that she can be given a woman's body with hormone treatments and breast implants that could later be removed if she eventually started growing breasts on her own. She would still be a tiny woman but there are a lot of short guys out there than might find her very attractive.

Ive been there this last 3 years in a row he heals people from all over the world he,s such a wonderful man who has dedicated his life to healingnthe sick andmhas cured thousands of people. There's no cost to see him you just have to make your way there. I have the highest respect for the medicine and doctors. but sometimes you just have to seek other alternatives. Don't know much about this disease. I would think the good thing would be that she has sustained her youth, that is a good thing now days, but even with the hormones, will it actually cause more harm than good for her? I am sure she would love to have a busty body and have kids one day. Adoption is an option for children but as for her bust line, maybe Augumentation? I am sure she is a very beautiful woman. Hope they can find something that will work for her.
