Two Irish teenagers have invented a cure for the vuvuzela - the deafening horns which are fast becoming the sound of the 2010 World Cup.

Restored Hearing, set up by Eimear O’Carroll (19) and Rhona Togher (19), have created a low frequency humming noise which can reverse the hearing damage done by the vuvuzela.

The entreprenurial pair created a company through University College Dublin as part of the NovaUCD's Campus Company Development Program to produce the gadget.

“Anyone coming back from World Cup or attending matches would be potential clients for us,” said Carroll.

The vuvuzelas which have been dubbed “the most annoying sound in the world” and sound like the continuous sound of a swarm of locusts, are driving soccer fans up the walls.

In addition, the vuvuzelas cause temporary tinnitus.

Temporary tinnitus, an irritating constant buzzing in the ear, is caused by prolonged exposure to loud noises.

The Irish students say a stadium worth of vuvuzelas creates 127 decibels of noise - about the same as standing next to a jet engine for 90 minutes.

Restored Hearing http://www.restoredhearing.ie/ offers a one-minute therapy session which they claim has 99 percent success rate.

They can be purchased via cell phone, credit card or via subscription.
