Daniel ‘The Miracle Dog’ who survived an Alabama dog pound’s gas chamber has now found a new home with the Dwyer family in New Jersey. The beagle mix, who has made the press around the globe, is in “extremely good shape” considering what he’s been through.

Daniel, named after the biblical figure by the staff, was placed in a stainless-steel box, at an animal control facility in Florence, Alabama, along with several other animals. The box was filled with carbon monoxide.

Surprisingly when they opened the box Daniel was staring back at them unscathed but frightened. His new owner says “God spared his life for a reason”.

The lucky dog was flown to New Jersey by Eleventh Hour Rescue, a nonprofit operation that saves dogs due to be put down.

Last month the organization received more than 100 requests to adopt Daniel but it was Joe Dwyer and his family that won that honor. Daniel is now a permanent resident at the Dwyer family house, where he has four other rescue dogs to keep him company.

Dwyer said “He's in extremely good shape, especially in light of what he went through…His attitude is just incredible."

On Wednesday ‘The Miracle Dog’ received a glowing report from the vets after a check up. He’s also making new friends with the Dwyer’s other dogs.

His new owner told AP "By Thursday evening they were all lying down together. It was wonderful to see."

"The box was filled with carbon monoxide"? The story does not state the source of carbon monoxide? At one time, some places used as a source, an old automobile engine, placed just outside. While I suspect carbon monoxide per se, is not cruel; if the source is hot exhaust from a nearby automobile engine; could that heat source add un-necessary suffering? Should the exhaust fumes source be heat-filtered first? Or the engine placed at a greater distance? Has anyone scientifically explained how this dear creature survived? If this exception was not harmed at all, either physiologically or psychologically, and those that died likewise are not harmed; think of those poor dogs that are half-dead/half-alive? Surely they are harmed both psychologically AND psychologically. I commend those administrators who did not cover this up. I've worked in civil service where too often the "reality" is in effect, "How does it look on paper?" I understand big corporate bureaucracies are much the same? Daniel'n Joe; sweet-dreams.
It is very sad that animals are disposed of so readily in this country. What's worse is the puppy mills that constantly breed the animals causing an over population. I'm glad this little dog survived and now has a happy home.
Where are you Georgie Boy??What have you got to say??You're very fast to call the Irish cruel to animals. What have you got to say about this ya langer?.
Makes me ashamed to be human the way we treat animals. Glad this dog found a loving home. People should remember the Guide Dogs, the Mountain Rescue Dogs, Dogs that sniff out explosives etc. You won't find a cat doing this kind of work! I mean, a 'guide cat for the blind'? nah, they don't give a flying ferkin...
What's this?!!!"The box was filled with carbon monoxide"That's a very cruel way to kill any animal.Bet those dogs didn't even get to see the judge. At least we give our dogs in Ireland a fair trial even when they look like savage pitbulls. The bleeding hearts on this site were to busy screaming over at Ireland to save one dog. While in their own back yard the U.S of A.There is mass cruel gassings of harmless dogs in a gas chamber.I bet in Ireland there is a law against using carbon monoxide to dispose of unwanted pets.
