Cardinal Sean Brady has denied he will resign because of his involvement in church scandals under his watch.

"I have re-evaluated my position and I have decided to continue as the archbishop of Armagh," he said.

The Archbishop of Armangh who is Ireland’s senior clergyman  told CNN that he  has moved on.

"I've moved on there, I think, and I got a lot of support in my decision," he told CNN in a rare interview.

Brady took part in an internal church investigation into the worst pedophile of all, Father Brendan Smyth, in 1975, Even though he interviewed two child victims of Smyth who told him of horrific abuse, he swore them to secrecy and never went to the police.

Brady later apologized for his role in the Smyth investigation.

"I want to say to anyone who has been hurt by any failure on my part that I apologize to you with all my heart," he said at his home church, St. Patrick's Cathedral in Armagh.

Brady denied to CNN that many ordinary priest's were extremely  critical of how the sex abuse scandal was handled.

Brady said: "I haven't met many of those priests, to be honest."

He also denied he was disappointed that Pope Benedict was not visiting Ireland durng his visit to Britain saying the Pope had shown his concern when he had sent a pastoral letter.

An Irish Times polls showed that over 80 per cent of Irish people believe the church did not do enough to stop pedophiles operating.

Why dosent Minister Mary Harney resign over her handling of HSE coverups
He should most definitely "move on"...into retirement.
He should not be a leader of Jesus' sheep. God will judge him someday. Only trust the Holy Spirit. Jesus said to let the Holy Spirit teach us. Beware of wolves in sheeps' clothing!
Sir Cardinal.... You say you've "moved on," I respectfully say, please "move out." Your presence enabled the heinous crime of child abuse, its continuance abuses the Catholic Church. No more "safe houses" for the abusers and those who protected them....we don't want another "safe house" like the one Cardinal Law lives in....Let the poor abuse victims move on. Bob
If he refuses to go, he must be forced out.
This evil auld reprobate is a prime example of all that is wrong in the den of iniquity, which is the hierarchy of this filthy clutch of scarlet robed bachelors that is the Church of Rome. The dumb, superstitious masses that believe this lying lot deserve all they get! They will all rot in hell, period!!!
he takes it very lightly it appears what horrific damage was done by swearing victims to silence. good grief he still wants to be leading people ? where was he planning on leading them to?
